    Superintendent: Milling/Fire Assay

    Job Description

    ANALYTICAL SERVICES DIVISION

    Objective: To supervise Fire Assay and Milling operations, perform complex sample analyses according to prescribed methods (including method development), assess, report and authorize results, trouble-shooting and maintenance of Fire Assay & Milling equipment.

    KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

    • Makes decisions regarding complex assays from a variety of ore types
    • Enforces adherence to QESH standards
    • Performs and applies advanced mathematical and statistical calculations appropriately to solve Fire Assay problems
    • Displays an advanced understanding of Fire Assay techniques
    • Displays good leadership and people skills

    JOB KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

    • 5 years minimum experience in industry in appropriate field
    • At least 5 years laboratory experience in a similar field
    • At least 5 years supervisory experience in a similar field
    • Must be able to work under high temperature conditions (up to 1200ËšC).
    • Must be physically fit to lift heavy objects, e.g. crucibles out of the furnace.
    • Good eye sight and eye-hand coordination is critical in weighing tiny beads of PGMs on the microbalance.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • 3 years National Diploma or Degree in Chemistry
    • Fire assayer’s certificate (advantageous)
