Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Assume responsibility for management of small, medium and possibly large scale projects. This will include: cost estimates, tender submissions, technical documentation, project scheduling, system design, meeting deadlines and budgets
• Ensure Safety in Design principles are utilised in all designs and by junior staff
• Be noted as a technical expert in an area of Rail Systems Engineering with some project management skills
• Interact with internal and external clients at middle to senior levels
• Apply a deep understanding of engineering principles to devise and deliver new approaches in order to solve more complex problems
• Demonstrate care about the well-being of themselves and others, through actively participating in OHS activities/requirements and development Work Method Statements. Review sub-contractor OHS procedures and ensure that staff are appropriately briefed on site conditions prior to mobilization.

Knowledge And Skills

• Thorough knowledge of railway systems engineering principles.
• Knowledge of the state of the technologies implements in railways systems over the world.
• Understanding of safety integrity levels, verification and validation principles as it is applied to railway control and signalling systems.
• Understanding the role and implementation of state of the art development tools, support systems, and simulation models.
• Good understanding of modern telecommunication principles and their application to rail systems.
• Knowledge of electrical traction systems
• Railway operating procedures, logistics and maintenance

Qualifications And Experience

• Hold an BSc electronic/electrical engineering degree and registered as a Professional Engineer with ECSA
• Have 6 – 9 years’ experience in railway requirements and system development.
• Be aware of and can apply relevant industry norms, standards and use a relevant quality system
• Experienced with the development of functional and interface specifications
• Exposure with the development and implementation of multidisciplinary rail systems such as train movement control, condition monitoring and management information systems.
• Engagement of maintenance staff with the introduction of new technologies and rail systems.
• Experience with the employment of advance test and measurement equipment.
• The ability to develop mathematical models with the aid of software tools such a MATLAB or equivalent
