RC’s must attract candidates by drafting advertising copy for use in a range of media, as well as by networking, headhunting and through referrals. They must be experienced enough to screen candidates, interview them, do background checks and finally match them to their Client needs.
Consultants also provide advice to both Clients and candidates on salary levels, training and development requirements and career opportunities.
Recruitment Consultants are Responsible to:
- Provide a vital link between Clients and candidates. The role is demanding and diverse and involves:
- Use sales, business development, marketing techniques and networking to attract business from new and existing Client organisations;
- Visit Clients to build and develop relationships;
- Develop a good understanding of Client companies, their industry, what they do, plus their work culture and environment;
- Advertise vacancies by drafting and placing adverts in a range of media, for example newspapers, websites, magazines;
- Use social media to advertise positions, attract candidates and build relationships with candidates and employers;
- Headhunt where they are able to identify and approach suitable candidates who may already be in employment;
- Use candidate databases to match the right person to the Client's vacancy;
- Receive and review applications, manage interviews and tests and create a shortlist of candidates for the Client;
- Request references and check the suitability of applicants before submitting their details to the Client;
- Brief the candidate about the responsibilities, salary and benefits of the position in question;
- Prepare CVs and correspondence to forward to Clients regarding the suitability of applicants;
- Organise interviews for candidates as requested by the Client;
- Inform candidates about the results of their interviews;
- negotiate salary packages and finalise arrangements between the Client and candidates;
- Offer advice to both Clients and candidates on pay rates, training and career progression;
- Work towards and exceeding targets that may relate to the number of candidates placed, a value to be billed to Clients or business leads generated;
- Review recruitment policies to ensure effectiveness of selection techniques and recruitment programmes.
Salary:
Salary structure will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience.
Working hours:
Working hours are flexible so long as the RC’s contribution is positive.
What to expect:
- Work is office based but time is also spent outside the office, meeting with Clients and interviewing candidates.
- Work in association is possible, but generally only for consultants who have expert knowledge of a specialist sector.
- A smart personal appearance is important as the role involves meetings with Clients and conducting interviews with candidates.
- Travel within the working day may be required to meet with Clients.
Qualifications:
Although a degree is advantages, especially in a technical field if the RC is operating in a specialist field of recruitment, experience with a sound track record is valued over any formal qualifications.
