    Chemistry Graduates - Laboratory

    Job description

    Work Description:

    This role exists within the Anglo Development Graduate programme (AGDP) for the development of technical personnel within all Anglo American Platinum laboratories. The Chemistry Graduate must successfully complete the 2 year development programme to become eligible for appointment as a Chemist within the Anglo Platinum Laboratories.

    The role is responsible:

    To optimize and continually improve the technical operations of the appointed laboratory. Implementation and utilisation of appropriate quality control and ISO systems in the laboratory environment to best practices must be applied and monitored. A function of the Chemistry Graduate role has a specific accountability for quality control, instrument and equipment calibration and the development of strong technical knowledge and applications thereof.

    Technical work responsibilities:

    • Successfully complete the relevant theoretical and practical Chemistry Courses.
    • Ensure a safe and clean working environment
    • Evaluate results and run reports for evaluation purposes
    • Assist in the routine optimisation and re-calibration of the instruments
    • Ensure sufficient instrument spares
    • Provide advice and expertise of the equipment to the Laboratory Technicians
    • Trouble-shoot and rectify instrument and quality related problems
    • Draft technical reports and presentations to senior Chemistry personnel
    • Draw statistical reports for the samples evaluated
    • Ensure periodic revision of methods and work instructions
    • Implement and proactively monitor quality control procedures and systems for the section
    • Monitor production processes, equipment and machinery
    • Quality control of task execution according to GAWI’s and GAP’s
    • Statistical method validation
    • Validate the sections QC standard materials and Instrument / equipment QC checks
    • Participate in required meetings
    • Maintain or improve on turnaround times according to SLA
    • Assist plant staff with on-line / at-line analysers where applicable

    Core work outputs:

    Technical support for a section/s of the laboratory

    Required abilities:

    4 year Chemistry Honours degree
