    Planning Portfolio Manager

    Job description

    Overview

    To provide strategic and operational direction for planning teams to deliver the overall commercial strategy for the category by achieving the availability, stock and customer objectives.

    Purpose and Objectives

    • To interpret the overall Merchandise strategy and develop a high level Merchandise financial plan by department for sales, stocks, margins, GP and markdowns.
    • To Lead and manage end to end supply chain activities to ensure desired outcomes are achieved, i.e. the right stock in the right store at the right timeBalances a complex set of variables, making trade-offs, influencing category teams to achieve stock and availability targets.
    • To manage the departmental inventory in order to achieve efficiencies of stock of actual to plan to meet KPI’s, Availability, Days of stock, Forecasting Accuracy. And Department TROI objectives.
    • To compile & produce reports to ensure visibility of the correct information [i.e. stock, margin, availability] in order to take corrective action to maintain and or improve profitability.
    • Identifying potential business risks [overselling, underselling, overstocking, buying margin] and proposing corrective action and ensuring execution thereof.
    • To build high performing teams through effective people management and development to ensure capability to meet current and future business objectives. Ensure recruitment and selection is in-line with transformation targets.
    • To identify opportunities to streamline and drive departmental efficiencies, resource allocation and establish category ways of working, manage departmental expense budget and identify opportunity to reduce expenses.
    • To work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective delivery of the operating plan.

    Education Requirement

    • Essential: B.Com Degree or Diploma /B Pharm (retail/finance management, pharmacy or related)
    • Minimum 5 years’ operational management experience within a multi-site environment
    • Extensive people management and leadership experience of junior management employees
    • Financial management experience (budgets, profit and loss statements, financial rations, etc.)

    • Retail mathematics (Merchant Maths)
    • Industrial relations
    • Systems, procedures orientated
    • Understanding of customer demographics
    • Understanding of forecasting methods and applications, including statistical modeling.
    • Understanding of supply chain management practices (ex. lean manufacturing).
    • Trend analysis
    • Planning skills
    • Computer literate - Excel, Planning systems, Microsoft office

    Job Related Skills

    • Buying and planning processes in Retail
    • Financial Planning and management in retail
    • FMCG demand planning and forecasting
    • Category management, sales and operations planning way of working (matrix organisations).
    • Vendor management (including negotiation and contract management).
    • People management
    • Business acumen
    • Problem solving and analytical thinking

    Job Experience

    • Previous Planning or Demand Planning experience at Planning Manager Level +3yrs (Essential)
    • Previous experience in Category Specifc environment
