    Associate, Due Diligence and Corporate Investigations

    Job description

    We are looking for exceptional candidates to join our Business Intelligence team as Associates. Our Associates are junior managers, focused on project management and delivery of written research reports. This involves:

    • Managing the delivery of open-source intelligence reports, including corruption and fraud assessments, anti-money laundering reviews, asset tracing and other litigation support projects, and due diligence and compliance products;
    • Helping to manage and coordinate more complicated investigations, such as on-the-ground investigations;
    • Managing a small team of Analysts, editing their work, providing them with ongoing training and supporting their longer-term professional development;
    • Scoping new projects and helping to prepare proposals for new business; and
    • Liaising with clients over ongoing project work.
    • Business Intelligence work at S-RM is varied and challenging: projects range in duration from a few days to several months, and cover a variety of industries and countries. As a case manager, you will be expected to provide context and research support to Analysts. As such, the successful candidate will come with a broad general knowledge of industry and politics, and will be able to quickly absorb new information relating to different industries, political trends, commercial developments, and key figures within business and politics.
    • A first class academic and professional research record, forming the basis for strong research and investigative skills;
    • Experience of operating in a commercial environment in a research or consultant role;
    • A keen interest in and good knowledge of business, financial and political issues internationally, and particularly within Sub-Saharan Africa;
    • Efficient time management and organisational skills, with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines;
    • Good team work and people management skills, including the ability to motivate colleagues and provide constructive feedback on an ongoing basis;
    • Flawless written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely;
    • The ability to think laterally and develop new ways of solving problems and finding answers;
    • Excellent attention to detail;
    • A proactive approach and a willingness to work outside the job specification when required; and,
    • The ability to work unsupervised and operate with a degree of autonomy.
    • Applicants must be able to demonstrate experience of using a range of research tools and databases, and should have a good understanding of the analytical methodologies used in due diligence, anti-money laundering and corporate investigation work. Successful candidates will have a proven track record of conducting complex research projects focusing on commercial or legal issues. Applicants should also demonstrate intellectual curiosity for varied and challenging work, a passion for business and politics, sharp analytical skills, and a strong academic track record.
    • The successful candidate will have the following competencies:
    • A first class academic and professional research record, forming the basis for strong research and investigative skills;
    • Experience of operating in a commercial environment in a research or consultant role;
    • A keen interest in and good knowledge of business, financial and political issues internationally, and particularly within Sub-Saharan Africa;
    • Efficient time management and organisational skills, with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines;
    • Good team work and people management skills, including the ability to motivate colleagues and provide constructive feedback on an ongoing basis;
    • Flawless written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely;
    • The ability to think laterally and develop new ways of solving problems and finding answers;
    • Excellent attention to detail;
    • A proactive approach and a willingness to work outside the job specification when required; and,
    • The ability to work unsupervised and operate with a degree of autonomy.
    • Due to the international nature of the work, additional languages are a strong advantage. Eligibility to work in South Africa is required.
