    Laboratory Analyst

    Job description

    The main purpose of the position is to analyse raw materials, in process samples, finished products, stability samples, components and special test requests.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Responsible for the chemical evaluation of: Final product; Intermediate product; Raw materials; Stability trials
    • Performs Quality control assays, HPLC sample preparation, GC sample preparation, Infra-Red, UV / VIS Spectroscopy, Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, Distillation, Volumetric analysis, Gravimetric analysis, Thin layer Chromatography, Refractometry, Polarimetry, Dissolution rate testing, Titrimetric analysis, Liquid / liquid extraction and any other technique required
    • Operate HPLC or GC Equipment if required
    • Ensures Lab equipment is maintained at acceptable levels and reports discrepancies / breakdowns to Instrument Technician
    • Maintains columns required for analysis informing team leader / Section Head of potential problems
    • Accurately interprets / calculates results
    • Deviations encountered are communicated to Team Leader / Section Head for Lab and process improvements Safety and health problems are identified and reported to the safety rep for rectifying
    • Ensure compliance to GMP guidelines, SOP’s and internal audits

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Matric / Grade 12 / N3 equivalent
    • National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry / BSC in Chemistry
    • Minimum 2 years laboratory experience
    • Computer literate
    • GLP & Quality Systems knowledge
    • Min 6 months experience in a Pharmaceutical environment – an advantage
    • HPLC experience – an advantage
