    The Services Technician is the entry level position in the Dimension Data Technical family. They work closely with Technicians and Senior Services Technician to provide basic maintenance, fault-finding and break/fix functions for clients.

    The primary responsibility of the Services Technician is to engage with clients and assist with fault-finding and break/fix function at lower levels of complexity. They are methodical and demonstrate problem solving skills in trouble shooting hardware and software solutions. At times, they may be required to assist with the installation of new hardware and software. They test installations and assist with fixing performance issues of installed software, escalating problems where applicable.

    What you'll be doing

    • Ensure operational hardware/software
      • Under the supervision and guidance of more senior colleagues, Services Technicians administer operating systems and existing application software, including the active directory or exchange. They assist Technicians with testing installations and assist with fixing performance issues of installed software, escalating problems where applicable. Services Technicians provide telephonic, remote and on-site support to clients.
    • Investigate and resolve problems
      • When problems arise, they provide support and maintain a log and/or list of all the required repairs. They remain current with developments in the hardware and software technologies. Services Technicians are aware and knowledgeable on updated versions of software applications and operating systems.
    • Provide routine maintenance
      • The Services Technician carries out routine server and network maintenance tasks. They setup and maintain back-up systems for desktops and file servers. They ensure the functionality of packaged non-proprietary software. They assist with ensuring that standards and protocols are adhered to including ensuring the functionality of and updating virus software.
    • Provide training and support
      • At times, Services Technicians may be required to assist with end user training and support and education.

    Individuals in this role are able to cope well under pressure and deal professionally with client queries. They are good communicators and can exercise patience, focusing on the job at hand. By working with their team to ensure a quality solution for the client, the Services Technician will contribute to client engagement and the success of their team. Services Technicians are proactive and hands on.

    The individual works toward obtaining industry (technology and product) certifications.

    What would make you a good fit for this role?

    Primary Role Accountabilities:

    • Desktop / Laptop / Server / Network (Wifi / ADSL routers, switches) and printer support.
    • Application trouble-shooting / support : Windows 7 / 10, MS Office suite, VA Apps
    • Liaise with external resource: Telkom, Lenovo, Dell, Teljoy, etc.
    • Provide assistance with AV / VC equipment.
    • Preventative Maintenance
    • Projects (New Club Installation, Refurbs, Software and Hardware rollouts)
    • Monitor Big Brother (In-house monitoring tool) daily for network irregularities and attend to accordingly

    Critical Requirements - Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

    • Secondary Qualification.
    • A+/N+/MCSE/CCNA Qualification.
    • Proficient in Windows 7 / 10, Windows server (Active Directory) and MS-Office suite.
    • Excellent Communication and Interpersonal skills.
    • Must be able to work independently.
    • Must be able to cope under pressure.
    • Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transport.
    • Must be punctual, disciplined and dedicated to effectively execute job requirements keeping in mind INTERIOR and EXTERIOR HR and IT policies in place.
