    Contracts Specialist

    About The Role

    The Contracts Specialist works with several L&H Specialists and will

    Individually produce contracts and act as technical advisor to other team members in the drafting, review, and negotiation of both routine as well as complex (e.g., transaction / structured) treaties for Life and Health (L&H) reinsurance lines of business (LOB).
    Serve as an expert resource for both external clients and internal partners, including Client Markets (CM) and other functional experts (FEs) such as Business Services (BS), Business Management (BM - Claims, Tech Accounting, Liability/Reserving), Legal, and Underwriting, in complex wordings negotiations, product development, and training.
    Initiate and facilitate effective collaboration via continuous dialogue/rapport between Contracts & Wordings (C&W) staff and CM/FEs in the region, and promote our brand - in client visits and where internal and external opportunities exist.
    Maintain strong governance risk and control standards in wordings and processes.

    Responsibilities Include

    • Individually accountable to produce contracts re: personal workload.
    • Steer contractual issues to resolution and continuously enhance relationships with CM and Products, Legal, and Claims etc. which also includes related project work.
    • Deliver high impact cross-functional team (XFT) collaboration with CM, BS, BM/Claims, Legal, Underwriting etc. to solicit input for possible changes to model wordings; capture and distribute for further comment then facilitate collaboration to garner 'buy-in' and consensus among parties.
    • Understand then assist in implementing the L&H Contracts E2E Target Operating Model (TOM) in EMEA as used in N.A. and UK.
    • Provide support in the development and implementation of guidelines for local Contracts processes and contribute to our global initiatives; apply a continuous process improvement (CPI) mentality; look for simplification / alignment opportunities.
    • Actively participate as needed in the development and maintenance of standard model wordings by LOB/location.
    • Work with team to maintain existing (and develop new) tools, systems, and processes, including tracking of advice and approved alternatives to address client-proposed wordings and material deviations from our standard model wordings.

    About You

    • Legal background / training; law degree preferred.
    • Fluency in English and French required; any other European language (preferably Spanish / Portuguese) a plus.
    • Several years of professional experience in legal and/or contract law within the re/insurance industry and related markets.
    • Solid understanding of L&H products, risks, controls and governance; claims management and processes; reinsurance administration; underwriting processes; and actuarial practices.
    • Strong ability to analyse reinsurance wordings and apply contract principles, and effective negotiation, influencing, and change management skills.
    • Detail oriented; excellent organizational and time management skills; quick learner; ability to work independently, productively and efficiently.
    • Proven strategic skills with strong leadership qualities including ability to make unpopular decisions when necessary; visible confidence in a group setting.
    • Excellent written and oral communication, listening, and presentation skills.
    • Creative, innovative, analytical and conceptual skills; a team player
