    Commercial Manager

    Job description

    We currently have an exciting opportunity available for a Commercial Manager in our Logistics Divsion. The successful incumbent will provide direct commercial support and insight to the business and customer team, facilitate the development of commercial engagement with the rest of the business and deliver enhanced customer and business profitability and costing information designed to unlock margin opportunities and assist in focused strategic decision-making.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Relevant tertiary qualification.
    • CA or CMA.
    • 8 years’ experience, including commercial costing and people management.
    • SAP experience would be advantageous as would exposure to a supply chain/FMCG/ logistics environment.
    • Activity-Based Costing applications, methodologies and pricing strategies
    • Costing principles, practices and performance indicators as well as financial modelling

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Strategic Contribution
      • Participate in the formulation and implementation of the national strategy, based on a 2 to 5 year view of requirements and ensure the agreed strategic objectives are implemented through team targets.
      • Customer Pricing and Contract Management-
      • Calculate and provide accurate pricing information for price negotiations with customers.
      • Review pricing contracts and lead annual pricing negotiations and agreements with customers.
      • Formulate commercial tramlines and prepare, manage and review presentations for finalization of the tramlines to both internal and external parties.
      • Conduct regular profitability performance reviews and highlight opportunities for the business and customers/principals, ensure costs are managed against targets margins.
      • Manage existing contracts and draft new contracts in consultation with the Group Legal Team and manage the process until sign off.
    • Budgeting and Forecasting
      • Compile and review results of the budgeting and sales forecasting processes, including volume and distribution revenue analysis.
      • Provide insight and interpret the impact of key cost drivers on profitability.
      • Update the revenue target trackers and highlight risk areas, growth strategy & margin improvement opportunities.
      • Complete annual “tail cutting” reviews focusing on unprofitable customers and principals.
    • Profitability Analysis
      • Provide meaningful profitability information and recommend methods to optimize customer, principal and business profitability.
      • Support the customer team in the use of system tools regarding costing and profitability.
      • Provide support and regular feedback on performance to the customer, sales and account managers.
    • Activity-Based Costing
      • Drive and review the functionality of the activity based costing system and the associated business efficiency opportunities to improve the accuracy and integrity of the model.
      • Further develop and extend the activity based costing model to all business areas.
    • Reporting
      • Compile monthly reports detailing customer and principal sales and performance along with an appropriate interpretation of the output.
      • Identify opportunities for value added reporting to improve the quality and content of reporting.
      • Commercial Insight and Technical Expertise-
      • Manage queries resulting from changes in business operations and provide calculations, detailed analysis and associated recommendations.
      • Provide expertise in management team meetings and recommend solutions based on insights and findings.
      • Provide practical commercial expertise to external customers and principals as part of regular engagement.
    • Working Capital Management
      • Assess principal and customer working capital status monthly and report to the business.
      • Highlight areas of concern and recommend possible remedial steps.
      • Ensure TM1 working capital module is up to date and business relevant.
    • Staff Management
      • Manage staff activities and performance and coach and support staff where necessary to achieve objectives.
      • Manage and deliver on succession plans to enable the development of a future leaders and specialists and ensure.
      • Develop and manage a high performance team who can work cross functionally and solve problems within the commercial arena.
