    Development Manager

    Job description

    Job Purpose

    Managing a team of specialist development resources, specifically resourcing and scheduling within the SDLC process. Ensuring that there is capacity in the team to deliver the program or project’s technical requirements. Acts as the technical owner of a particular application (e.g. Ovaflow), and participate in client engagements to set the application strategy and roadmap within the organisation. Work with the Business Consultant and other stakeholders to manage the client relationship, and ensures speedy resolution of any application related incidents or problems.

    Provides technical guidance to the development team.

    Reviews the developed source code for adherence to Development standards and Quality considerations.

    Competencies

    Knowledge:

    • SDLC, ITIL (Incident, Change, Release, Problem Management)
    • Software architecture, facilitating JAD sessions, data modelling techniques, UML Process Design
    • Applicable technologies: Java, RPG, Lotus Notes apps, HTML, SAS language, SAP language, Cognos, Business Objects
    • Knowledge of data query language and structures

    Technical Skills:

    Software Development and Testing, including: AD2 Process modelling, AD4 Design, AD5 Programming, AD6 Configuration management, AD7 Application testing, AD8 Quality management

    • Understanding methodologies and tools
    • Third party software
    • Application landscape knowledge
    • Pricing & charging
    • Managing projects
    • Application architecture
    • Information architecture
    • System operations and administration

    Job Requirements:

    Matric plus appropriate tertiary qualification (B. Engineer, B.Com, BSC Informatics)

    • MOF or equivalent contemporary development methodology.
    • ITIL Foundation certification
    • Project Management qualification
    • Testing Techniques

     

    Experience

    • General experience in a Insurance Environment: 2 years
    • Experience in Development Management with proven track record of Application delivery

    Other

    • 6 (six) years relevant experience in managing an Application Development environment and development team
    • A proven track record in leading, and efficiently managing development teams.
    • Successful delivery of multiple complex, integrated projects related to a particular application
