    Head of Business Development

    Job description

    Amongst other duties,your role will entail:

    •  Devising and driving a tactical implementation plan with supporting processes for the business development team in terms of firstly conducting relevant environmental scanning activities and secondly determining opportunities assessment priorities.
    •  Driving (through the BD Team) the process of exploration, screening, analysis and evaluation of market/business understanding, market intelligence, market strategies, business partnering opportunities etc. via networks of internal and external resources to identify, evaluate and secure options for growth, consistent with strategic objectives.
    •  Ensuring team engagement and personal engagement with relevant stakeholder communities within the relevant countries through regular presence in the market, evaluating trends and assessing risks and new business opportunities. Similarly, ensuring engagement with various forums (internal and external meetings, events, conferences, congresses, etc). Facilitation of the implementation of relevant educational workshops for earmarked stakeholder bodies in order to showcase and market Roche Diagnostics products, services and value offering.
    •  Driving and ensuring through the team, the development and presentation of a strategic fact-based business cases for each identified opportunity with clear rationale and sound financial analysis and due diligence in relation to the strategic objectives in order to secure relevant management approvals. Driving the co-development (with relevant internal stakeholders) of business plans (including marketing and sales and operational strategies) for approved new market or new segment business development strategies.
    •  Establishing, in collaboration with the leadership team, commercial priorities ensuring sound project planning, the right resource allocation and the necessary business processes/systems to deliver on objectives. Lead and participate in internal project teams.
    •  Driving and ensuring the preparation of recommendations on prioritized and approved business cases that cover strategic, sales, marketing, technical, financial, commercial, legal and compliance, resources allocation, necessary business processes/systems and all other related aspects to deliver on objectives involving the relevant internal local and global resources/ departments.
    •  Driving and ensuring the provision of recommendations and inputs into Global, Regional and Local market entry strategies, pricing strategies, positioning strategies, marketing and sales budgets, operational requirements, etc. and relevant resources allocation, and revenue to ensure effective implementation of approved new business development strategies.
    •  Ensuring that the BD team contributes to and achieves the BD quantitative (sales, KPIs, accounts receivables) and qualitative (types of # of opportunities assessments) objectives through the appropriate internal and external resources mobilization. Track and manage the achievement of sales targets through BDM activities and reporting thereof.
    •  Managing the team,the departmental financial expenses budget.
    •  Establishing BDM systems, processes and procedures (SOPs) for regulating the BD outputs from the BD team.

    Desired Skills and Experience

    A National Degree in Health Sciences or related qualification (NQF level 7) with a post graduate qualification in Health Economics, Pharmaco-economics, Public Health, Economics or Business.

     Required Experience:

    A minimum of 10 years business development/sales/product management experience with a healthcare supplier (pharmaceuticals, medical devices or IVD).5 years’ experience in a supervisory/management position is also a requirement.


     Additional Requirements: Candidates must be in possession of a drivers license and a valid passport.
