    Flight Safety Officer

    Job description

    Air-Tec is seeking suitable candidates for the Flight Safety Officer position, based in Bedfordview.

    Purpose of Role

    • The Flight Safety Officer is responsible for the review of safety data and assessment of all analytical information, the development of corrective recommendations arising from such reviews and the presentation of corrective recommendations to the accountable executive or the person responsible for operations and maintenance, as applicable.
    • The Flight Safety Officer is responsible for the administration of the company Safety Management System (SMS) program. This position monitors safety issues, provides safety training to crew,Investigates incidents and accidents, acts as a resident expert on safety matters, and makes recommendations to improve safety in the workplace.
    • The Flight Safety Officer is responsible to conduct all the organisations Safety Risk Assessments, Flight, Ground, Maintenance and Management of Change.

    Responsibilities

    • Drive continued development of SMS within the organisation as well as ongoing Implementation ensuring developing industry standards are constantly being met;
    • Facilitate changes neccessary to affect safety throughout the organisation while supervising and maintaining the safety mangement processes and procedures withing the organisations SMS;
    • Facilitate safety planning processes and promote safety awareness throughout the organisation;
    • Ensure safety management has the same or higher priority level throughout the organisation as any other management or operational processess;
    • Continued monitoring of the effectiveness of the organisations SMS;
    • Initiate Corrective Actions when neccessary;
    • Providing safety reports on SMS performance on a monthly basis;
    • Drive an effective Investigation process involving role players in an safety committee;
    • Providing safety advice to top management and proposing corrective actions on safety related issues as needed;
    • Ensuring that safety related documentation and records are available and up to date;
    • Receive, review, investigate, mitigate and provide feedback on  all organisational safety reports;
    • Compile monthly safety publications, notices distributing the information throughout the organisation;
    • Based on the organisations SMS, provide induction training to new employees ensuring familiarisation and participating in the organisations SMS;
    • Developing and compiling of preliminary hazard list, ensuring that all contract areas are assessed and risk mitigation has been conducted;
    • Compiling safety and operational information for each contractual area of operation and conducting a comprehensive risk assessment;
    • Provide accurate information, and give assistance to investigating personnel and all role players in regards to investigated incidents and accidents, upholding the integrity of the organisation;
    • Follow up / monitor / review all hazards (and or reports) as necessary. Implementation corrective action due to the severity or as required;
    • Compile and Manage the organisations Emergency Response Plan, maintaning the ERP Manual and associated documentation as well as continued liaison with the organisations clients to ensure ERP collaboration with their requirement;
    • Plan Periodic Emerngency Response exercises ensuring the Emergency Response Room is fully functional and in the ready at all times. 

    Requirements 

    • Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License, current or expired, and/or;
    • Commercial Pilots License Expired, and/or
    • Private Pilots License current;
    • Safety Management System Training Certificate (SA CATS Part 121.062) obtained at an approved SA CAA ATO.
    • Minimum of 5 years aviation experience in flight operations and/or maintenance;
    • Broad operational knowledge in the functions of the organisation or similar type of organisation;
    • Minimum of 2 years experience closely involved in the management of an aviation safety program, SMS or Quality Assurance Program.
