    Study Manager - Minerals and Metals

    Job description

    Provide an externally facing service to customers in the development of industry specific strategic business solutions aligned to projects and Advisian assignments and provide support in the development of the regional consultancy practice to deliver the required Advisian services to WorleyParsons and its customers. Developing new customer work through existing customers.

    • Strategy and Planning
      • Work in alignment to location and regional vision and strategies to build WorleyParsons Advisian business.
      • Work with Principal Consultants to identify new business prospects within own area and beyond own scope, through working collaboratively across the industry’s. Utilise referrals, relevant opportunity data bases, marketing events/conferences, internal and external networking, sources lead prior to Request For Tender process;
      • Support a business that delivers Advisian assignments that are well positioned to convert to ‘pull through’ opportunities, while supporting the creation of a home and a distinct culture for consultants;
      • Looks for opportunities for change. Has the ability to constructively test, challenge and draw out creative ideas and select those that would work. Able to articulate convincingly an idea to their senior manager.
      • Assist in the design and development of high quality business solutions to meet client’s unique project requirements.
      • Design and facilitate client workshops and meetings.
      • Create a business culture of selling and doing, and ensuring all consultants create customer relationships across all sectors.
    • Execution of Projects
      • Ability, experience and technical expertise to manage a project or portfolio of projects and a team of consultants as well as commercial management, business development and management accountability.
      • Project or portfolio delivery and reporting.
      • Support Pursuits and Execution Strategy for Advisian Projects, e.g. Global Workshare (SME’s).
      • Understand and apply Advisian Xpress and other relevant WorleyParsons tools and processes (EMS, WPMP, OneWay, etc.) as relevant.
      • Establish study milestones and ensures accurate tracking and reporting of study metrics.
      • Provide operational input into the development of protocol feasibility questionnaires.
      • Deliver the operational elements of the study plan.
    • Business Intelligence and Customer Relationships
      • Can demonstrate ‘selling and doing’ successfully.
      • As required, support business in the design and implementation of business development campaigns.
      • Transition pull- through growth opportunities from the Advisian group to Deliver and Improve teams. Proactively engage with Delivery and Improve at the right time to ensure the pull-through opportunities are secured.
      • Monitor industry, global trends and knowledge of key market drivers to evaluate customers’ business needs now and into the future.
      • Can successfully build relationships with customers;
      • Provide input into the design and development of high quality business solutions to meet client’s unique project requirements.
      • Develop and maintain constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders and enabling functions;
      • Collaborate within WorleyParsons to share best practice and improve knowledge management;
      • Participate in an environment that nurtures discussion and innovation to extract customer issues, get to the underlying challenges and participate in composite Advisian teams to meet customer requirements.
      • Commercial Acumen and Governance
      • Provide commercial management, leadership, administration and operational efficiency across the practice and projects.
      • Ability to understand and develop commercial models for Advisian.
      • Adopt and support reporting measures that appropriately demonstrate value across the entire business and pull-through value.
      • Drive portfolio management to ensure delivery of projects meet performance requirements.
      • Ensure project personnel are closely monitoring project trends and project problems and taking early remedial action.
      • Work with project personnel and the project controls personnel to ensure regular and accurate standardised reporting for all individual projects.
      • Ensure a report of overall Project Delivery performance (summarising data from key component projects) is generated as per reporting requirements.
      • Support the projects to deliver profitable growth in line with agreed business plan, with specific support on securing work, delivery of margin, demonstrated pull-through value, growth and retention of capability and delivering quality of service to target customers.
      • Support consultants in securing work, delivery of margin, demonstrated pull-through value and delivering quality of service to target customers.
      • Provide coaching and mentoring to consultants to develop culture of ‘doer-seller’ mentality. Nurture the enthusiasm for seeking strategically relevant projects and demonstrating the relevance of within the broader business.
      • Provide assistance with writing proposals and reports;
      • Understands economic, financial, industry, and organisational trends to accurately diagnose customers’ business strengths, weaknesses.
      • Work with project personnel to ensure all projects are set up and executed in full compliance with all the requirements of the WorleyParsons Project Management Process (WPMP) and Enterprise Management System (EMS) using consistent approaches, methodologies and reporting systems.
      • Project performance reporting to the location management and other relevant stakeholders.
    • Leadership and People Management
      • Provide “OneWay” leadership to deliver vision of Zero Harm;
      • Create and nurture a culture of ‘selling and doing’ and developing trusted customer relationships.
      • Assist local managers with resource requirements for key projects. Plan and coordinate resources necessary to complete project implementation and preparation of major strategic proposals.
      • Provide leadership to deliver synergies and collaboration across practices and regions and ensure location is leveraging this network as required.
      • Identify, develop and support local capability platform in line with business plan. Ensure the team has the relevant competency through the appropriate recruitment, induction and training.
      • Ensuring that the correct organizational structure is in place, and that roles and responsibilities are clear.
      • Coaching, motivating, mentoring and engaging individuals and teams to harness the best performance via mentoring, performance and succession plans etc.
      • Seek out application of personnel technical capabilities into other, possibly unrelated fields.
      • Demonstrated improved employee engagement and meeting retention targets.

    Branding and Marketing

    • Promote the Advisian brand.
    • Understand the location marketing plan.
    • Actively share market intelligence within the local and global Advisian teams at the appropriate forums.
    • Represent WorleyParsons and the Advisian business in the public domain though networking and participating in market forums, conferences and assisting others in external representation initiatives.

    Experience

    Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training

    Required

    • Professional Engineer with a minimum of 15 years experience on working in a multi-discipline environment, on front end greenfield and brownfield development projects
    • Operations experience across all phases of project delivery either on site or within the client environment;
    • In the relevant discipline or field, an excellent knowledge of the applicable local and international standards and statutory and regulatory requirements.
    • An excellent knowledge of the fundamental principles, theories, concepts, processes and procedures in the relevant discipline or field; and if required, the basic requirements of related disciplines or fields.
    • Experience in producing process design calculations, equipment sizing, P&IDs, PFDs, etc.;
    • Concept identification, review, evaluation and selection;
    • Develop cost and schedule estimates
    • Able to make difficult decisions and lead and manage others in changing business conditions.

    Qualification(s)

    Required

    • BSc Eng, BEng, BSc, BTech, in Mining and/or Geology or postgraduate degree in Mineral Resource Management essential
    • Southern African Institute for Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM) registration or eligibility
    • Professional Registration with ECSA

    Preferred

    Postgraduate qualifications in relevant discipline, management or other relevant subject or equivalent. Masters degree or PHD.
