    General Technical Assistant - Boilershop

    Job Description

    • The Boilershop team requires committed, hardworking and reliable General Technical Assistants to join their team. These General Technical Assistants will support the rest of the department with fabrication, repair, and maintenance activities.
    • This role involves assisting with tools, materials, workshop organization, basic fabrication tasks, and ensuring a safe and efficient working environment. The General Technical Assistants will be responsible for the following tasks, amongst others:
    • Housekeeping on a daily basis
    • General workshop duties i.e. maintaining the cleanliness of the workshop and tool store
    • Cleaning of tools
    • Identify and able to select appropriate hand tools
    • Able to use basic power tools
    • Able to do to minor/ basic welding tasks
    • Demonstrate appropriate knowledge of workshop safety
    • Complete basic task using oxygen/acetylene cutting process under supervision
    • Assisting Artisans with various tasks as and when required

    Qualifying Criteria:

    • Grade 12
    • Basic knowledge of Health and Safety rules
    • Ability to handle tools i.e. cutting machines

    Job Description

    The Fitters department requires a committed, hardworking and reliable Painter/Handyman to join their team. The Painter/Handyman will be responsible for the following tasks, amongst others:

    • Maintaining building structures and upkeep of the aesthetics thereof
    • Measuring, cutting and disassembling or assembling various components
    • Various maintenance and new installations on buildings, workshops and office spaces
    • Repairing, maintaining and renovating different structures, tools, equipment and appliances throughout the workplace
    • Paint work for various projects, office space, workshops, parking bays and demarcation areas
    • Prepare and erect timber framed partitions, Prepare and fit wall panelling
    • Perform tasks using rough sketches and dimensions
    • Repair equipment or appliances where possible

    Engineering Stores Assistant

    Job Description

    • A Stores Assistant is an internal customer service position within the Engineering department. The Stores Assistant will ensure all internal requests are issued timeously.
    • The Stores Assistant will off load all incoming material and store items in a designated area safely and correctly. His/ her tasks will include but are not limited to:

    Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

    • Ensure all daily store tasks are completed on time
    • Assist with processing daily stock orders

    The Communications department currently has a vacancy for a methodical, attentive to detail individual to join their team. Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Installation, wiring and mounting of various electronic devices, machines or equipment
    • Installation and programming of access control systems, CCTV cameras and motorized entrance points
    • Installation, fault finding, relocation and fitment of all telecommunications

    Job Description

    • The Security Officer’s primary purpose is to protect the personnel and all assets of the business. To prevent loss and damage by reporting any violations with regards to policies and procedures. The following tasks will include, but are not limited to:

    RESPONSIBILITIES (NOT limited to the below)

    • Ensure access and egress is controlled at all SA Metal property by completing the necessary registers and operating the gates

    • Ensure that all the assigned areas are patrolled at regular intervals

    QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE

    • Previous security experience, at least 5 years
    • Registered with PSIRA - minimum Grade C
    • Grade 12 or equivalent with good numeracy and literacy skills
    • Willing to work shifts, both day and night
    • Flexible and willing to work overtime
    • Excellent communications skills

    Assistant Scrap Metal Yard / Branch Manager: Various Branches In Cape Town

    Job Description

    • The Assistant Branch Manager focuses on assisting and supporting the Branch Manager with the planning and managing of the branch’s operations and staff.
    • The Assistant Branch Manager, with the guidance of the Branch Manager, is responsible for leading a team to ensure that operational requirements are met. Compliance with the Second-Hand Goods Act, maintaining good customer relations, and acting with integrity are crucial for this role.
    • The Assistant Branch Manager must be able to manage the branch on his / her own if necessary.

    Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

    • Ensuring all operational processes and procedures are strictly followed
    • Maintain good customer relations and ensuring customer satisfaction
    • Ensuring that the scrap metal is purchased at the correct grade
    • Ensuring records are updated and reconciled accurately for all items purchased and dispatched
    • Ensuring Company policies and procedures, and health & safety regulations are adhered to

    • Ensuring that assistants thoroughly inspect scrap to be purchased
    • Ensuring that the requirements of the Second-hand Goods Act are complied with when buying scrap by accurately recording all information required under the Act
    • Following clear and reasonable instructions from managers

    Applicants must have the following qualifying criteria:

    • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent
    • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
    • Good numeracy skills
    • Good communication skills
    • Fluent in English
    • Ability to work quickly and under pressure
    • At least 3-5 years applicable managerial experience
    • Valid driver’s license and own reliable transport
