    Church History Area Manager

    Responsibilities

    • Serve as a bridge between the Church History Department and the Area by managing and coordinating all operational elements of Church history work, ensuring that work is aligned with area and department priorities, and becoming a subject matter expert.
    • Lead efforts to collect historically significant records (e.g., oral histories, photographs, journals, etc.) and preserve those records in both analog and digital format.
    • Train and direct a network of volunteers to carry out Church History Department priorities & initiatives.
    • Provide information and support to Area Presidencies and Area Office staff, contribute to area initiatives, develop plans and budgets, and actively participate in area leadership councils.
    • Consult with Area Office personnel and other headquarters’ departments to share Church history through websites, publications, exhibitions, historic markers, and anniversary events.

    Qualifications

    • Must hold a current/valid Temple Recommend and/or be worthy to possess one.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Management, History, Library & Archival Studies, Anthropology, Religious Studies, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
    • 8-10 years of professional experience managing people and working cross-functionally with demonstrated abilities to teach, motivate, and mentor a volunteer workforce. Transnational experience desired.
    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office tools and similar programs.
    • Should possess high degree of organisational and project management skills.
    •  Ability to thrive in collaborative situations, resolve difficult issues in a professional manner, perceive and analyse situations accurately, and meet objectives under strict deadlines.
    • Proven high level interpersonal skills with the ability to engage appropriately with senior level ecclesiastical and professional leaders.
    • Knowledge of Church history in the Africa South Area and broad understanding of general Church history, including proven research skills.
    • Strong oral & written communication skills in English. Similar skills in Portuguese and African languages preferred.
