    HSSE Advisor

    Main purpose of position

    • Currently we are looking for an HSSE Advisor to be based in Cape Town, South Africa and be part of our global team. The primary mandate of an HSSE Advisor is to ensure that all Release projects deliver on their commitments and obligations in relation to health & safety, security and environmental aspects. This position involves supporting the development and implementation of Release environmental and social management system (ESMS), Project specific ESMS, identifying, mitigating, and managing health and safety, security and environmental risks and ensuring compliance to applicable framework. As our HSSE Advisor, you will be required to support the E&S/HSSE Manager driving the Health & Safety, Security and Environmental agenda in cross disciplinary teams through the project life cycle and making sure that related impacts and risks are being accounted for.  You will also be involved in environmental and social risks and impacts management in line with international standards (IFC Performance Standards, World Bank Safeguards). 

    Main responsibilities:

    • Ensure full compliance with the Company’s HSSE Policy, Code of Conduct, local regulations, Project ESIA, and all other applicable HSSE requirements.
    • Support the execution and implementation of all project-related plans, including ESMPs, Labor Management Plan, Stakeholder Engagement Plan, Ecological Management Plan, OHS Plan, Waste Management Plan, and Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan.
    • Manage HSSE aspects at project level through regular interaction with and oversight of Release onsite Project HSSE Coordinators.
    • Provide HSSE training, guidance, and awareness to Release onsite Project HSSE Coordinators to ensure consistent implementation of requirements.
    • Compile, monitor, and report HSSE KPIs, and participate in incident investigation, reporting, and follow-up actions.
    • Conduct site visits, participate in project and stakeholder meetings, and support ongoing HSSE coordination as required.
    • Support the development, implementation, and review of Release and project-specific ESMS in line with Scatec corporate requirements, applicable regulatory frameworks, Project ESIA, and Good International Industry Practice.
    • Conduct HSSE risk assessments across all project activities and lifecycle phases, identify key risks and red flags, and ensure alignment with Release Method Statements prior to and during construction, operation, and maintenance.

    Qualifications and competencies 

    • University Degree within Health and Safety, Security and Environment.
    • 5 years of work with HSSE responsibilities, preferably with experience on construction site and renewable energy developments in Africa. Basic knowledge of Environmental and Social aspects in accordance with IFC Performance Standards and/or World Bank Safeguards is a plus.
    • Fluent both written and spoken in English and French. Other language skills are an advantage.
    • Establishing and maintaining process and procedures, such as ESMS or HSSE management systems (management plans and manuals, procedures, Job Risk Assessment)
    • Demonstrated HSSE leadership with strong hands-on knowledge of Health & Safety management on construction sites and effective field engagement at all organizational levels.
    • Proven experience in monitoring, analyzing, and reporting HSSE KPIs to drive continuous improvement and compliance.
    • Solid understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 requirements, with experience supporting integrated management systems.
    • International work experience and exposure to liaising with Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) considered a strong advantage.
