Purpose
Responsible for contributing to efficient monitoring of the assets. This includes the day to day operations monitoring in real time (R/T) via SCADA and remote monitoring software and logging of all performance and availability data for efficient reporting and asset performance management. The objective of time (R/T) monitoring is to identify faults as soon as they occur to reduce mean time to repair (MTTR) which will require close co-operation with the Site Supervisors and logging of all Events both scheduled and unscheduled (break downs) that impact production and or down time.
Contributing to continuous improvement of the operational assets by ensuring the accuracy and consistency of all data. Supports both the asset managers and the Performance Engineer at head office.
Responsible to ensure timeous updates of performance data on all reports incl but not limited to monthly asset management, board slides, CTA, NERSA and performance KPI’s.
Expected to be capable of interacting with technical personnel at both wind and solar PV site and also attend and contribute to O&M meetings by providing analysis of fault Events and trends.
Key Activities
Operational and maintenance monitoring and analysis
- Assists the HO Performance Engineer in obtaining daily production figures, plant breakdown and planned maintenance information in order to manage technical Availability and accurately quantify and allocate losses.
- Monitor the status of generating units to minimize the mean time to repair (MTTR) and reduce maintenance down time to ultimately maximize Availability and thus energy production / revenue.
- Ensures all relevant data related to planned and un-planned maintenance is accurate.
- Ensures the capturing of maintenance failure and defect resolution information into the asset management system to ensure that comprehensive maintenance history is maintained for future analysis and trending purposes.
- Assists the HO Performance Engineer to analyze relevant data in order to identify failure trends and performance deviations.
- Investigate issues as directed by the Monitoring Supervisor and or Performance Engineer.
- Contribute to wind and solar Asset management / O&M meetings by providing analysis of fault Events and trends.
Operational Performance and Asset reporting
- Ensures that all data related to operational asset performance including resource, availability and maintenance are valid
- Ensures updating of all metrics, KPI’s and data plots are provided timeously in support of the Performance Engineer and Asset managers.
- Provide ad hoc information required by the HO Performance Engineer, Monitoring Supervisor and the Asset managers in relation to all procurement, O&M Agreement, PPA, CTA , NERSA and Distribution Agreement.
Health Safety and Environmental Management
- Identifies possible operational risks via monitoring, in accordance to the probability and impact of occurrence in terms of health, safety, monitory, time, quality and environmental impact
- Risk management
- Assists the Monitoring Supervisor with identification of performance related risks.
Qualifications
- National Diploma (T3,N6) in electrical engineering/mechanical experience (essential)
- Relevant Degree (preferable)
Experience
- At least 1 year experience in utility scale power plant operations and or construction, preferably in the renewable energy sector
