    Low Carbon Energy Solutions Portfolio Lead (108076)

    Short Description / Purpose of Job

    • Sasol’s strategic ambition is to lead energy transition in Southern Africa and become a global major in green hydrogen and derivative products. The purpose of the Low Carbon Energy Solutions portfolio team is to build and nurture the global Sasol green hydrogen business opportunities pipeline in this nascent industry.
    • Coordinate low carbon energy solutions strategy with broader Energy Business Portfolio Management team, track and evaluate overall health of Low Carbon Energy Solutions portfolio
    • Drive the identification of new low carbon energy solutions project opportunities that are in line with the Sasol strategy
    • Develop and implement a framework to prioritise projects in the development pipeline and optimise the project portfolio to ensure selection of Tier 1 assets only
    • Develop potential funding and incentives options for the projects and opportunities being consider
    • Engage with partners and potential partners on risk sharing and project development frameworks.
    • Support the Business Development and Market Development teams in opportunity evaluation and commercial structuring
    • Shape the green hydrogen opportunities pipeline project pipeline development, building initial partnerships and responding to RFP bids
    • Prepare the preliminary business case for new projects incl. project concept, techno economic, etc.
    • Prepare Grant funding RFI and prepare projects to access grant and concessional funding, in collaboration with the Climate Change Team

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • Develop green hydrogen commercialisation projects and RFP bids in line with the Sasol’s strategy and Sasol positioning
    • Prepare the preliminary business case for new projects incl. project concept, techno economic, etc.
    • Incubate projects form the idea phase to feasibility stage-gate and develop handover plan to the development teams
    • Provide  Low Carbon Energy Solutions Business ]with timely information and materials for effective decision making
    • Coach and develop team members and transfer and instil effective ways of working
    • Lead the initial engagements with potential partners including key stakeholders such as the Government departments
    • Prepare Sasol terms of reference for the various partnerships and engagements, including negotiations framework
    • Build and scale incubation and commercial team as needed, excluding leveraging other internal Sasol resourcing.
    • Prepare initial project costs budget and project plan for the opportunity development and implementation

    Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

    Governance

    • Provide weekly report to VP Low Carbon Energy Solutions portfolio on project status, roadblocks incl. resourcing matters
    • Scale and capacitate the incubation team with the right skills and capabilities

    Incubation

    • Lead opportunity identification by identifying potential assets/sites for Low Carbon Energy Solutions Portfolio
    • Define project scope & Sasol role
    • Set screening criteria and screen for potential competitors and partners (with inputs from Market Dev. & Partnership Lead on the latter)
    • Initiate discussions with key stakeholders
    • Conduct HSE screening; Plan for the required regulatory approvals, surveys (technical site, environmental), studies (transport &logistics)
    • Prepare preliminary business case and monetisation model (e.g. includes analysis of electricity tariff regimes, PPA principles, tax regimes, etc.)
    • Define techno-economic concept (e.g. configuration, ramp-up)
    • Define high-level project commercial structure (incl. governance / legal structures)
    • Develop plan for next phase
    • Produce the RFP materials for submission
    • Refine and implement the Transformation Management Office (TMO)’s existing policies and processes for use within the Energy Business.

    Formal Education

    • Master’s degree  (engineering / scientific / commercial) or equivalent qualification

    Min Experience

    • 12+ relevant years experience including manage others
