    Principal Accountabilities:

    • Develop a publishing strategy in conjunction with the Manager that aligns with the strategic objectives of the business and addresses market realities.
    • Plan and resource market research to ensure proposed products align with curriculum and market needs, use appropriate language, pedagogy, ancillaries, and technology, identify and engage author panels, and commission and manage impact and market research according to company strategy.
    • Commission and publish dictionary products that increase market share and contribute to profitability.
    • Manage the intellectual property of dictionary products, e.g. for digital products or licensing, including sample data and supporting documentation, re-processing, DTD harmonisation, updating source files for pre- and post- publication corrections, and storage. 
    • Follow the technical systems strategy for dictionary products, including using the chosen software to edit and quality control dictionary products.
    • Monitor project delivery and provide accurate and timely reporting on activities, systems, and processes by documenting and tracking progress on key projects, communicating updates, providing visibility of projects, capturing key metrics to inform planning, and managing resources to meet deadlines and budget. 
    • Maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders by collaborating with Sales and Marketing, liaising with the Digital product team and publishing services, and building and maintaining beneficial relationships with authors, NGOs, professional organizations, education ministries, government departments, and educationalists.
    • Manage the budget effectively by providing accurate forecasts for overheads, author costs, first costs, and freelance editorial, compiling and approving the budget in line with guidelines, accurately tracking expenditure, and communicating any overspend promptly.
    • Identify training needs for the dictionary team and implement development plans by providing or sourcing specialized training on dictionary development, software (both corpus and content development software), and technical systems, including how to merge, filter, search, export, and perform error analysis and fixing in editorial software.

    Requirements

    • Degree level qualification in Lexicography or a degree with relevant equivalent experience.
    • 4 years or more relevant working experience.
    • Driver’s license (Code B).
    • Lexicography skills and knowledge .
    • Can demonstrate a track record of conceptualising and delivering high- quality successful print and digital dictionary products that have been generated using XML-workflow tools and processes.
    • Experience in corpus building and analysis.
    • Market research experience.
    • Experience with setting up complex project and overheads budgets.
    • Excellent time and project management expertise – with the ability to estimate realistic time and resource requirements to budget.
    • Extensive experience of project management and leadership in a product development context.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to thin and act quickly, negotiate challenges and troubleshoot solutions often under pressure.
    • Excellent communication skills with proven ability to listen and collaborate with other teams to plan and coordinate activities.
    • Systems experience in SAP, Qlikview, Microsoft Office Suite and dictionary development software advantageous.
