Grade 12 Certificate, MBCHB degree or Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Independent Medical Practitioner.
Current Registration with the HPCSA as an Independent Medical Practitioner for the 2025/6 financial year. Successful completion of FCP Part I will be added as an advantage.
Duties :
Responsible for comprehensive medical care to Internal Medicine Patients-General/Subspecialties/Outpatients and Inpatients. Deal with referrals and transfers from the Hospital drainage Area. Conduct daily ward rounds in the medical wards.
Effectively communicate with other staff members, nursing staff, paramedical disciplines, patients and /or their relatives. Write meticulous discharge summaries for all patients. Run medical outpatient and sub-specialty clinics.
The candidate will be expected to rotate between satellite and partner hospitals associated with the University of Pretoria. Supervise junior doctors (undergraduate students, interns and community service doctors). Attend relevant administrative meetings. Implement and monitor adherence to National Core Standards (norms and standards).
Participate in all activities of the discipline in relation to teaching and research. Perform practical procedures relevant to the care of patients.
Ensure effective administration and safe record keeping in the department. Willing to work after hours (night, weekend and public holiday) to provide continuous uninterrupted care of patients.
Conduct training of junior medical officers, registrars, medical students and allied health workers. Mentorship of Staff (Junior Medical Officers, Registrars, Nurses) in the Medical Wards and Clinics and from facilities that refer to Kalafong/Steve Biko hospitals Cost effective usage of resources, including laboratory, radiology, and pharmacy .
Doing procedures as required for proper work-up of patients, e.g. Bone marrow aspirations, LP etc. Manage patients according to accepted guidelines. Attend academic activities on a regular basis and presenting at meetings. Contribute to undergraduate training.
