    Arup Energy South Africa - Senior Energy Engineer

    The Opportunity

    We are currently recruiting for a Senior Energy Consultant to join our multi-disciplinary Energy team in our Johannesburg office, South Africa. As Arup, we pride ourselves on our extensive support network and our strength in numbers.  

    Due to continued business growth and increasing client demand in response to the urgent need to decarbonise the economies of South Africa and other African countries, Arup is seeking a Senior Engineer to support the delivery of energy projects. 

    From a Rosebank, Johannesburg base, supporting the further growth, development and service delivery of the energy consulting team, with a focus on multi-disciplinary aspects of our projects, but also business development and project management (leading our internal teams) on PV, wind, battery storage, green hydrogen, energy transition and mini/micro- grid projects. Focus on grid-connections and large-project context, structure and role-players are important. Financial acumen, with respect to energy projects and project finance is required. Experience with industrial processes as well as technologies for decarbonising those processes will be a distinct advantage.

    Business development, client-facing, team leadership, technical skills, written skills, people skills and contractual skills are all of importance. Experience in project planning and management, feasibility studies, concept design development and preparation of technical specifications and tender documentation - with a particular focus on photovoltaic, wind, storage, minigrids/micro-grids and grid systems will be an advantage.

    Is this role right for you?

    We are looking for individuals with the following experience –

    • B.Eng. or BSc. in Electrical, Mechatronics or Mechanical engineering, preferably with a further qualification in renewable energy and professional registration with ECSA
    • Recognisable experience relevant in the energy sector with specific exposure to the renewable energy and decarbonisation
    • Project Management and support to lead and deliver technical advisory, owner’s engineer and design services within the renewable energy sector for clients.
    • Preparing and delivery of bids and proposals and writing technical reports & presentations, checking and reviewing reports, drawings and presentations by others
    • Driving the development of more junior energy team members across Arup South Africa offices, via mentoring and provision of technical and commercial guidance

    HSEQ Standards and Assurance Manager

    The opportunity 

    This is an exciting time to join Arup.  We are experiencing significant growth and are seeking, an experienced, dedicated, and passionate individual to join our Group HSEQ function to lead HSEQ standards and the associated technical assurance.  

    The role will lead the development and introduction of global standards and critical control measures, improving the consistency and rigour of our significant HSEQ risks and issues 

    Working with the regional HSEQ teams, project teams and other stakeholders, the role will enhance the effectiveness, efficiency and consistency of our assurance processes and measures. To enhance the firm’s organisational learning, the role will coordinate and conduct audits and reviews of regional H&S programmes, project success, incidents and trends. 

    As a H&S subject matter expert, this role will support how we learn from serious incidents, ensuring outcomes are effective. The role will bring innovation and enhancements that share and promote examples of excellence and innovation in safety, quality and operational excellence.  

    Is This Role Right for You? 

    If so, you likely have: 

    • Proven experience in HSEQ management within high-risk sectors i.e. construction, infrastructure, energy, etc. of developing, implementing and embedding risk-based assurance processes for HSEQ, including control frameworks, lines of defence models and regulatory compliance systems.  
    • Strong project management skills with wider experience of organisational change.  
    • Experience of developing and facilitating workshops and coordinating process improvements.  
    • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, particularly stakeholder management including great collaboration skills, working in matrix reporting across geographies, functions and projects  
    • Relevant professional qualification in safety or quality management, such as IOSH, IRCA or equivalent.  
    • A commitment to continuous improvement and staying current on industry best practices.

    Senior BIM Modeller/Manager: Mechanical

    The Opportunity

As a Senior Mechanical BIM Technician, you will use your digital skills to deliver critical social infrastructure projects from eco-developments to high tech Data Centres.     With access to a global community of BIM champions, you will collaborate with and learn from other digitally driven minds including leading BIM teams on small and large scale projects by managing and modelling Mechanical services on BIM projects. 

    Within this role you will also be identifying new opportunities to improve quality and project delivery

    This position is based in the South African, Cape Town office and responsible for driving Arup’s business in the space.    

    Is this role right for you?

    We are looking for individuals with the following experience –

    • BIM industry experience as a Mechanical BIM Technician / Modeller
    • Awareness of mechanical design principles, industry standards and competency with drawing air and fluid side plans and schematics
    • In coordinating MEPF services with other disciplines in a 3D environment and extensive knowledge of software including Autodesk Revit, BIM 360, Navisworks, Dynamo, Rhino Inside and Enscape knowledge
    • Medium and large-scale projects including work on masterplans and high-rise designs and experience with model federation and coordination

    The Opportunity

    We are currently recruiting an individual that has a passion for healthcare and sustainable design by combining the following skillsets to progress the development of healthcare and infrastructure which ultimately contributes positively to the communities they are situated in.

    A dynamic individual that understands the need for people-centric, society enhancing solutions that can be embodied within the various spheres under the healthcare umbrella while achieving the ideals and goals of the UN SDGs.

    A specialist that can bridge the gaps between strategy, policy, master planning, medical and clinical processes and translate the need and the drive from a healthcare perspective into a tangible micro and macro infrastructure solutions.

    Key to the role is to work with government bodies, funders and clients to unpack the pain points of and challenges and to collaborate and co-create sustainable, tangible, innovative solutions that are meaningful and can enhance healthcare, one intervention at a time.

    The role requires an individual that has experience in current healthcare strategies, policies, trends (telemedicine, NHI, PPP’s, NetZero Hospitals etc.) and is exposed to international best practice master-planning strategies for rapid build, modular, flexible and sustainable solutions in an African context.

    Ideal candidate will be an experienced professional that has recognisable experience in the built environment sector with a specific focus on healthcare.

    • Experience in media and public relations for healthcare and optional publications and subject matter
