    Intermediate Software Engineer

    Our software engineering team is responsible for building our market-leading banking as a service platform & products, enabling real-time access to funds at the lowest possible operating cost.  When integrated into JUMO’s platform, it enables our partners to offer loans, savings and a wide range of financial choices to a new group of customers.

    As a Intermediate Software Engineer, you will be accountable for solving complex technical problems with solutions that are scalable, testable, maintainable, and efficient, whilst continuing to improve our engineering practices. This position reports to a Tech Lead.

    You will

    • Deliver across the SDLC to build a highly scalable distributed system.
    • Assist in defining the team's roadmap in line with the company and technology vision.
    • Architect services and systems using well accepted design patterns to allow for iterative, autonomous development and future scaling.
    • Design, implement, test, deploy, and support our products and services
    • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback.  Guide the team to consistently write production-ready code that is easily testable, easily understood by other developers and accounts for edge cases and errors.
    • Anticipate and communicate blockers, delays and cost ballooning within their team’s projects, before they require escalation.
    • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and drive best practices and engineering excellence

    You will need

    • Experience with Kotlin / Java / Scala, and a cloud-based infrastructure, ideally AWS. Python experience will be an added advantage
    • Experience designing, developing and testing software
    • Extensive hands-on experience with the design and development of high-volume/low-latency services
    • Business and operational awareness
    • Good communication skills & EQ – able to work in a diverse team

    Portfolio Analyst

    About this job

    As Portfolio Analyst you will be an integral part of the team accountable for the financial performance of JUMO. You will work with various areas to create insights that inform strategies implemented in the portfolios on a daily basis.  Your analyses will maximise the performance of all credit products while constantly navigating the competing interests of growth, and financial sustainability. You will report to the Portfolio Manager.

    You will 

    • Analyse portfolios to identify pockets of risk or opportunity and develop proactive strategies that assist in optimizing predictable portfolio performance.
    • Monitor, analyse, and suggest remedial action on portfolios, through careful consideration of internal and external factors which may cause portfolio performance shifts.
    • Assist in managing microcredit assets across geographies, risk segments and product classes.
    • Build BI reports to assist in speeding up portfolio strategy development.
    • Execute on the strategic vision of the business across various credit product offerings.
    • Build code repositories and assist in documentation of learnings.
    • Establish strong working relationships with peers and stakeholders to address cross-functional processes and influence changes outside of the team.
    • Understand and analyse the trade-offs when pursuing various portfolio strategy scenarios, and provide recommendations based on the best way forward.
    • Ensure adequate communication, reporting, tracking and monitoring of portfolio performance.
    • Be responsible for growth, performance, and optimization of financial products in pursuit of maximizing eligibility and reach across our markets.

    You will need

    • University degree in either Business, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Risk Management, or equivalent.
    • University graduate in the above fields with a keen willingness to learn OR a maximum 2 years’ Analytical / Commercial experience within financial services – Consumer lending, Banking, Asset management or Fund management.
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
    • Understanding of financial metrics in relation to portfolio management and the associated forecasting thereof.
    • Strong financial product understanding.
    • Understanding of the credit lifecycle.
    • Proficiency in Excel, data analytics.
    • Ability in presenting / communicating recommendations
    • Intellectual curiosity and a willingness to drive innovation through testing, exploration, and creative problem solving in a fast paced, constantly changing product environment.
    • Appetite to learn and be challenged.

    Bonus if you have 

    • Proficiency in SQL.
    • Experience with BI reporting software such as SuperSet, Power BI, Tableau etc.
    • Completed / In the process of completing a CA / CFA / CAIA certification or equivalent.
    • Knowledge and application of credit scoring and risk management. techniques across the entire credit life cycle on consumer portfolios.
    • Experience in a data rich, dynamic and constantly changing environment.

    Intermediate Data Engineer

    About this job

    At JUMO, we’ve built a smart financial services platform to make finance accessible to everyone.  Our Data engineering team ensures that our intelligent banking platform is able to acquire data from millions of users across globally distributed sources, such as GSM. Beyond ingress, the data is processed and stored in the cloud to support event-driven analytics and machine learning pipelines.

    As a JUMO Data Engineer, you will design, build and maintain scalable data architectures.  You will monitor their performance, perform root cause analysis and provide solutions to any issues that might arise. You will work with large, complex data sets, which means experience working with Big Data is essential.  On a typical day, we use Spark, Kafka, Python, SQL, Airflow and AWS technologies, such as Redshift.  We work with Docker and Kubernetesfor automating deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications.  

    You will

    • Be responsible for creating robust, mission critical batch and streaming data processing capabilities
    • Design, implement, and maintain the data pipelines that constitute JUMO's data platform, enabling effective use of data across the organisation
    • Provide feedback on team members' output, encouraging skills development within the team
    • Work closely with Portfolio Managers and Decision Scientists to understand the real world problems we’re trying to solve
    • Mentor juniors with technical leadership
    • Be supported by senior leaders as you drive your own development

    You will need

    • BSc. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent tertiary degree
    • Real-world understanding & experience of data pipeline design and development, as well as data processing and storage (i.e. experience in designing systems to process and curate large data sets)
    • Experience in streaming technologies, specifically Spark and Kafka
    • Experience with cloud technologies, AWS preferred
    • Solid, proven experience working with big-data technologies such as Apache Spark, Flink, Hadoop, Kafka or Kinesis, Cassandra, DynamoDB, InfluxDB, MongoDB, Presto, Beam
    • Command of productionising and monitoring of data pipeline workflows, and working knowledge of the Data Product Lifecycle
    • Experience in application design and development with at least one of the following languages: Python (preferred), Scala, Java
    • RDBMS experience in any relevant technology such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redshift and SQL Server.  This includes experience with relational database administration, technical architectures and infrastructure components
    • Understanding of CI/CD practices
    • Productive within a Linux command line environment
    • Proven ability to contribute software as part of a team.  We are looking for someone that can effectively communicate technical concepts, and apply critical thinking under pressure

    Bonus if you have

    • Experience working with messaging systems (RabbitMQ, SNS)
    • Experience working with data pipeline orchestration (Airflow, Nifi, Streamsets)
    • Experience working with production BI environments and tools (Tableau, Superset, Looker)
