    Data Engineer (Contracting) - JHB

    What we want:

    • We are looking for Data Engineering Professionals to join our dynamic and diverse team of Data Specialists. If you meet some or all the below requirements, then you may have a certain set of skills which we require.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    (As the field of data engineering is very broad, you may be required to develop API endpoints for the consumption of data, data pipelines, highly distributed, high availability data processing pipelines in an effort to satisfy the need of the Client, Data Analysts or Quantitative Analysts.)

    • Providing a superior customer experience by building and maintaining relationships, working at customer offices, keeping data confidential
    • Design and develop data solutions
    • Produce solutions for both real-time and batch environments

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • 4 - 10 years experience in Data Engineering environments and technologies
    • Cloud exposure and/or project experience – Microsoft Azure, AWS, etc
    • Extensive experience in Microsoft Azure technologies
    • Extensive experience in reporting and dashboarding technologies such as Power BI and QlikView
    • Experience using Azure DevOps and CI/CD frameworks
    • Exposure to logical and physical data modelling
    • Agile and waterfall project management
    • Relevant Qualifications Information Technology
    • Additional MS, Data and/or Cloud certifications are beneficial.

    Your knowledge about the following concepts, is valuable to the team:

    • Data modelling
    • Relational data modelling in traditional database management systems
    • Coercing unstructured and semi-structured data into structured form
    • Data pipeline knowledge (extracting and transformation)
    • Data transformation knowledge for reporting and analytics purposes

    Some technical competencies that we are looking for:

    • Writing SQL queries, that can relate, transform and aggregate data from many different sources
    • Experience with writing data pipelines that move and transform data
    • Working knowledge of a general purpose programming language like Python would be advantageous
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure technologies such as Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Databricks, Synapse Analytics.
    • Working knowledge of Storage Repositories and Data Lakes

    Junior BI Analyst - Cape Town

    Job Mission:

    • Provide analysis, reports and dashboards using BI technologies.
    • Build star schemas when needed and reconcile with the data source.
    • Analyse the requirements and propose the best reporting solution to the users.
    • Maintain the existing platforms and monitor the data loadings.
    • Support the users and train them.

    Key Activities & Accountabilities:

    • Ensure maintenance of the BI platform, including users’ management.
    • Monitor the processes and data flows and bug fixing.
    • New Release testing.
    • Document, design, implement and reconcile solutions.
    • Enrich the existing data model based on changes happening in the sources.
    • Work in collaboration with the BI team and the end users to propose the best analytics to meet the needs.
    • Take ownership on user stories, update them upon the progress, and share updates with the rest of the team.
    • Log the time based on the activities.

    Education

    • At least bachelor’s degree in computer science.

    Experience

    • 3+ years of experience of BI solutions, including ETL and visualisation tools.
    • 3+ years of experience with SQL and a programming language, ideally Python
    • 2+ years working with end users to define requirements and propose solutions.
    • Experience with one of those: Salesforce / Tableau / CRM Analytics / Python / Snowflake.

    Competencies

    • English is a must and French is highly desirable.

    About you and the skills we are looking for:
    You are a strong and well skilled Project/ Programme Manager who is experienced across various financial services environments.
    You understand People, Process and Technology and you have the ability to make informed decisions and lead projects from idea inception all the way through to activation and launch.  

    You have worked in different industries including banking and financial services and you understand the world of consulting.

    Experience and Skills:

    • 5-10 years’ Project/Programme Management experience on financial services projects
    • 3 or more years’ experience managing multiple teams across multiple projects
    • Budget management and stakeholder management skills
    • Effective communication skills
    • Exposure to Agile and alternative delivery methodologies
    • Exposure to Business and Process Analysis
