    Snr Specialist: Network Planning Design

    Position Purpose

    • The Senior Specialist Network Planning and Design is responsible for designing and planning the Transnet corporate network infrastructure, ensuring scalability, efficiency, and reliability. This role involves analysing network requirements, developing network architectures, and collaborating with cross-functional teams across Transnet to implement network solutions that align with business objectives. Furthermore, the Senior Specialist will also:
    • Serve as network subject matter expert and provide consulting support to the Transnet Operating Divisions and other relevant stakeholders.
    • Contribute to the plans and designs of innovative enterprise network infrastructure solutions.
    • Produce and maintain timely, accurate engineering documentation to support implementation, operations support and quality/compliance requirements.
    • Be responsible for compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and industry best practices.
    • Participate in the development efforts to bring automation into the network environment.
    • Execution of identified opportunities for network performance and functionality improvement within the enterprise network.

    Position Outputs

    Strategy:

    • Development and Execution of a comprehensive network strategy aligned with the Transnet business goals, ICT Strategy and Roadmap.
    • Translate ICT strategy into effective ICT Network Operations tactical plans (Network Asset Management Plan, Network Auditing and Compliance Plan, Network Optimization and Tuning Plan, Network Capacity Planning, etc. ) to ensure realization of the ICT Digital Strategy and Roadmap.
    • Research, Lead and direct the development of innovative and digital transformative solutions in the networks domain in support of business outcomes.
    • Define the architectural vision for the network infrastructure, considering factors such as security, performance, and scalability.

    Network Planning:

    • Oversee the design and planning of network solutions to meet Transnet requirement such as ensuring high availability, disaster recovery and network resilience requirements.
    • Collaborate with cross functional teams to understand Transnet Operating Divisions and other key stakeholders business needs and translate them into technical requirements.

    Network Design:

    • Design and architect complex Transnet network solutions, incorporating industry best practices and emerging technologies.
    • Ensure network designs are scalable, secure and complaint with relevant standards, best practices and applicable legislative frameworks.
    • Continuously research on industry technologies trends and best practices in relation to the networks environment.

    Networks Solutions Acquisition:

    • Plan and manage all activities relating to the acquisition and evaluation of network hardware, software and services.
    • Evaluate network hardware, software and services from various vendors to select the solutions that align with business needs and technical requirements fit for purpose in the Transnet environment.

    Network Implementation and Performance Optimization:

    • Lead, plan, direct and oversee the implementation of network projects, ensuring they are executed on time and within budget.
    • Ensure that activities related to planning, coordination, and direction of enterprise network services and related components are in place to adequately provide network, security, documentation and disaster recovery services.
    • Accountable for implementation of Enterprise Network Connectivity roadmap, design, performance, security and general health (stability and availability).
    • Lead on activities relating to the monitoring of network performance and proactively identify and mitigate network bottlenecks and/or performance issues.
    • Develop and implement network optimization strategies to ensure the optimal network functionality.

    Risk Management and Security:

    • Ensure effective management of business and network risks identified in the ICT networks operational environment as well as ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
    • Implement and enforce network security measures, working closely with the IT Governance, Risk and Security team to mitigate risks and vulnerabilities.
    • Ensure compliance with the industry regulations and data protection and privacy standards.

    Enterprise Network Service Performance Monitoring:

    • Lead the design and development of network service performance monitoring capability and ensure that tools required to have visibility of performance of our environment on a 24/7 basis are in place to ensure business continuity.
    • Engages Group ICT on challenges experienced at an OD level and identify opportunities for improvement of the service to ensure realization of business outcomes.

    Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Contribute to the design and development of Engagement Models required to manage and control all activities of Digital Technology, Application and Network Service management to ensure provisioning of new and enhanced services to business.
    • Build, support and maintain healthy, diverse internal and external relationships (government, authorities and agencies) to ensure achievement of organisational goals. Implement remedial actions where required.

    People Management:

    • Plan, organise, lead and control subordinate's activities to ensure subfunctional objectives are met or exceeded.
    • Manage people development initiatives, succession planning and talent management to meet functional performance standards.
    • Coach team and create a continuous-learning environment. Assess team development needs and close gaps.
    • Create a culture of high performance, value-for-money, optimisation and innovation through effective team performance management.

    Documentation and Reporting:

    • Ensure the maintenance of the accurate up to date documentation pertaining to network designs, configurations and changes.
    • Provide regular status reports and updates to ICT and Transnet leadership on network projects and initiatives.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in IT or related degree majoring in Information Systems or Networks plus 8 years’ experience in a management position.
    • Cisco Certified Network Associate or equivalent
    • Cisco Certified Network Professional will be advantageous.
    • 15 years’ experience in Network Design and Management within a large organisation (experience to include Business change techniques such as business process reengineering).
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, while adhering to deadlines.
    • Requirement of Trust and honesty in the handling of Finances as per the National Credit Act. Amendment 19

    CA Trainee

    Position Purpose

    • The CAT Programme at Transnet is a three-year Learnership Programme for Candidates who have completed an accredited post-graduate qualification or equivalent.
    • The stringent requirement of SAICA demand that trainees receive extensive training in Financial Management, Management Decision making, Financial Accounting, Internal Audit & Corporate Governance, Auditing & Assurance and Taxation.
    • All new trainees will be trained and assessed in line with the SAICA CA 2025 framework which focuses on integrated thinking, digital acumen as well as integration between technical and professional competencies.
    • This also includes the professional values, attitudes and enabling competencies (acumens) such as Ethics, Citizenship, Lifelong Learning, Business Acumen, Decision making, Relational and Digital Acumen.
    • In Transnet, the trainees will be rotating to different functions in the head office and several of its operating divisions e.g. Transnet Freight Rail, Transnet Properties, Transnet Engineering etc.

    Helicopter Day Captain

    Position Purpose

    • As the commander of the aircraft, the Day Captain takes ultimate responsibility for the flight crew and passengers on board the aircraft as per TNPA procedures as well as the SACAA Civil Aviation Regulations Part 91.02.7 and 91.02.8

    Position Outputs

    • Plan daytime flight missions in accordance with marine traffic demands and Port Demands and Port Control directives.
    • Prepare aircraft resources and loading schedule for marine pilot transfer and Port related functions.
    • Responsible for pre-flight checks and safety briefings to ensure compliance with stringent safety requirements.
    • Responsible for transfer of marine pilots safely to vessels as they call and depart from the shores of the South African Port system.
    • Ensure compliance with South African Civil Aviation Regulations
    • Ensure compliance with SAMSA and the National Ports Act No 12 of 2005
    • Evacuation of accident victims and persons in distress
    • Conduct port related flights in accordance with TNPA and customer requirements
    • Determination of flight routes (flight planning) in accordance with approved aeronautical requirements and charts.
    • Liaison with Port Control and Air Traffic Navigation Services
    • Recording of take-off and landing times to fulfil scheduling requirements
    • Ensure customer satisfaction and performance
    • Logging of operational flight times and determination of mission efficiencies
    • Assisting in delivering a 24-hour seamless operation to enhance port productivity in line with TNPA business objectives and customer demands.
    • Contribution to business reputational enhancement by minimizing incident and accident occurrences within the Port system, by adherence to the strictest safety requirements.
    • Ensure prompt responses to Port control directives to enhance ship turn-around time.
    • Training and development of Day Captains, CoPilots, Cadet Pilots and related functional personnel.
    • Receive daily operational reports from the Night Captain.
    • Conduct Line Proficiency Checks on Day Captains, Co-Pilots and Cadet Pilots.
    • Conduct day helicopter flights under all-weather conditions in accordance with TNPA standard operating procedures and aeronautical publications.
    • Maintain high standards of flight safety, as well as safe transfer of marine pilots onto vessels under all-weather and sea conditions.
    • Ability to navigate the helicopter in cloud, rain or Instrument meteorogical conditions with sole reference to instruments if the helicopter was flown in adverse weather conditions and inadvertently entered cloud or IMC conditions, as well as to land the helicopter safely without any damage to passengers, crew, the aircraft and equipment during daylight, low lowlight as well as marginal weather conditions.
    • Manage a multi-crew cockpit with the ability to manage an inflight emergency as well as to land the helicopter safely without any damage to passengers, crew, aircraft and equipment during low levels of light as well as marginal weather conditions.
    • Compliance with standard and recommended practices as well as performance levels required to meet national certification criteria.
    • Execution of skills transfer plan.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Hold a current CPL or ATPL-H.
    • Night Rating.
    • Instrument Rating.
    • 2000 hours total flight time.
    • 500 hours on turbine helicopters.
    • 350 hours on multi- engine helicopters.
    • 250 hours on A109 helicopters is advantageous.
    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience.
    • Operational knowledge of the functions of TNPA marine pilot services will be an added advantage.

    Specialist, SAP ABAP

    Position Purpose

    • This position calls for an experienced developer who is able to evaluate and provide robust and efficient solutions to address TPL Business processes and applications by developing accurate reporting functionalities, graphical interfaces and system integration interfaces.
    • This individual must have strong development experience in SAP ABAP and Webdynpro with experience in the SAP IS-OIL and other modules of SAP including integration with external systems.
    • The individual must be able to analyse, design, code and maintain applications in the SAP and Portal systems thereby allowing all levels of SAP users immediate access to accurate, valid, complete and relevant data on a daily basis and thus facilitating business operations.

    Position Outputs

    • Design, Develop and Implement SAP functionality. Create test plans and perform unit and integration testing. Manage the changes to the different clients within SAP in accordance with the TPL Change control procedures. Conduct Analysis, Design, Development, Testing, Implementation, Maintenance and Optimization of: Reports and queries for the SAP system and SAP Portal; Interfaces between SAP, Portal and external systems; Workflow functionality and Custom/dialog developments. Research new SAP modules and functionality.
    • Perform technical duties within all stages of the system development life cycle. Ensure that business application systems are developed within the TPL prescribed framework and adhere to quality standards. Transfer SAP and general IT knowledge to the User Community. Compile and maintain all development related documentation. Provide technical support on projects and system issues. Investigate and debug applications to resolve system issues.

    Qualifications and Experience

    Qualifications & Experience:

    • Degree in Information Technology with 3 – 5 years’ IT relevant experience or a National Higher Diploma with 5 – 8 years’ IT relevant experience and training in the following areas: Business and/or systems analysis and design ABAP development with exposure to full SAP implementations and integration with non-SAP systems. ABAP development in SAP IS-OIL, FI, SD, MM, QM & PM modules SAP Portal applications using Webdynpro and ABAP Integration technologies such as Web Services, XML transformations, etc. Further qualification required: SAP ABAP certification.
