The SnA & EWA Quality Head will oversee the quality of products in Africa and support the Global 1UL Quality leads to build capability and deliver agenda. The role is responsible for deploying quality strategy, governance, and goals that directly impact marketplace success, customer credibility, consumer safety, and on-shelf quality. This, in turn, enhances Unilever’s reputation and brand equity by ensuring superior quality for making brands unmissable. This role will be part of SnA & EWA SC leadership teams and Quality Leadership team.
WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE
Quality Management Systems:
- Execute SnA & EWA quality management policies, systems, and procedures.
- Define and maintain quality objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Ensure the Quality Management System (QMS) is maintained in a state of inspection readiness.
Compliance and Audits:
- Ensure compliance with applicable SnA & EWA regulations and standards.
- Lead and coordinate internal and external audit activities.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of quality control procedures.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to achieve quality targets.
- Implement corrective and preventive action plans.
- Drive and deploy a digital quality transformation program.
Leadership and Collaboration:
- Lead and manage the SnA & EWA quality team except HC BU.
- Business partner SnA & EWA leadership teams, and sit in the SC LTs supporting decisions for growth and transformation with new WoW.
- Be the member of QLT and support the overall strategy development and deploy for 1Unilever and lead the 1Unilever quality network.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and internal & external stakeholders to address quality issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Partner with the central expertise team on overall product safety, audit planning, and governance.
Consumer Feedback and Superior Quality Program:
- Lead the Consumer Feedback and Superior Quality Program to enable unmissable brand superiority.
- Govern UBS investment and partner with the business to drive market share.
- Work with the innovations and operations team on consumer complaints, insights, and feedback for business UBS conversations.
Risk Management:
- Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
- Monitor product and process design activities to ensure quality standards are met.
- Maintain an effective Change Management system to ensure business changes are effectively managed.
Communication and Reporting:
- Communicate quality objectives, performance metrics, and improvement initiatives to senior management and key stakeholders for 1UL Africa and overall 1UL.
Talent Development:
- Partner to lead the 1UL quality team and talent development within the function.
- Mentor and upskill the quality team to ensure continuous professional growth.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED
Experiences & Qualifications
- Relevant degree as minimum in science/engineering and/or technology
- Minimum 15 years of experience. This role requires occasional travel within the assigned region.
- Proven experience in quality management, compliance, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of Africa regulations and quality management principles. Basic appreciation of overall regulations on product and pack.
- Experience in virtual teamwork and developing robust QMS.
- Proactive approach with a commitment to continuous improvement.

Reporting to the Quality Manager, The Quality Assurance Measurement & Testing Coordinator is responsible for the quality of products in the market. You will support and/lead any quality related topics from consumers, customers, authorities and certification control bodies. You will focus on protecting, implementing, executing, and providing technical quality support to Logistics, Country operations team, local Quality teams and Business teams.
Decision making directly impacts consumer safety and quality of Unilever (UL) products in the marketplace, impacting UL’s reputation and brand equity. It is a key role in mitigation and management of UL Corporate Operational Risk (Design and production of products that meet our environmental, consumer safety and quality standards).
WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE
- Product quality assurance & consumer safety including: All relevant category quality & consumer safety, KPI trending and Analyses & action (PDCA)
- Quality Management system, including Unilever consumer safety roadmap, relevant product category GMPs & other Unilever initiatives, interaction with external bodies, auditing Unilever internal requirements and external suppliers and co-packers
- Technical management, including Benchmarking, Capability & Evaluation. Technical support, Auditing of site laboratories i.e. methods and technicians (planned job observations). Ensure competence of lab technician and analyst to conduct tests as per Unilever methodology. Ring testing as required (analytical within own lab)
- Customer & consumer focus, including Complaints & corrective action, Incident management based level of severity, Management review
- Change Management, including innovation projects, factory approval & handover systems. Imported products, Engineering projects, Man, method, machine and material changes
- Incident Management, All recalls, consumer safety & serious incidents (corporate role). Minor quality incidents (site role), Continuous Improvement, WCM, QMS system, Learnings from other countries. Knowledge Custodian – Subject Matter experts, UMS QM pillar and Category GMP’s.
- Operate as the first point of contact for the authorities in case of issues / incidents Lead the quality improvement program for customers
- Management & Control: Influencing, Skills identification, People management, technical management, Relationship building with manufacturing sites. Training Eg: SAP QM; HACCP; Stats; GMP’s; auditing, manufacturing hygiene; general SHEQ awareness; UMS QM;.
- Protect the quality standard: conform the Unilever standard at our DC’s, Repacking. Ensures the full Go to Market business is prepared to execute a public recall
- Support UL Quality strategy, governance and goals through specific projects and targets
- Participate or lead in local quality projects and roll-out [run trainings if needed]
- Implements and ensures compliance to locally agreed certifications and external standards
- Being a proactive member of the local Quality network, participating in relevant workstreams, and ensuring the local program is aligned to the Global and local Quality priorities and strategy
- Identification and transfer of "Best Practices" into the business

Experiences & Qualifications
- Relevant qualification in sciences or technical discipline
- Minimum 3 years FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) business experience in Quality, R&D or Manufacturing
- Proven and recognized achievements in risk and change management
- Auditor experience is strongly preferred
- Able to work in an organized and structured manner, even when put under pressure

JOB PURPOSE

- This role covers a broad range of legal support across all 4 Unilever Business Groups - BGs (Personal Care, Home Care, Nutrition and Beauty & Wellbeing) in Southern &EWA together with the national support across Unilever’s Southern Africa business, a key market for Home Care.
- Leading the Legal team across Southern Africa and EWA
- Business Partnering the business in these markets as the first point of contact for all legal matters arising across the region including marketing, sales, distribution and supply chain related legal matters as well as corporate law, local litigation and compliance topics.
- Closely collaborate with Unilever’s dedicated global expert legal teams on topics such as Intellectual Property (IP), data privacy, business integrity, M&A and competition law.
- Provide legal advice and commercial risk analysis to the marketing and R&D teams on legality and support for product claims and marketing materials in line with all relevant local legal and regulatory laws and guidelines governing the products in collaboration with the Regulatory team and with the teams working globally and regionally on marketing asset development and product launches.
- Provide legal advice and trainings on legal topics including competition law issues.
- Coordinate and defend, in accordance with the business strategy, out-going and in-coming competitive challenges in respect of product claims, marketing campaigns etc.
- Coordinate and defend, in accordance with the business strategy in -coming and out-going litigation in collaboration with the global Litigation team.
- Provide strategic legal advice on initiatives and material agreements with customers and suppliers to ensure full compliance within the organization.
- Member of the Southern Africa business Leadership team.
- Member of the One Unilever Legal Leadership Team
- Align legal strategy and exchange best practices with other Unilever lawyers in One Unilever and, as necessary, also with the Legal team in the BG led markets and the global legal teams within Unilever to optimally manage and mitigate risk.
