    Directs Sourcing Manager

    Job description

    British American Tobacco currently have a great opportunity for a Directs Sourcing Manager in Heidelberg, South Africa.

    The role holder will be mainly responsible for the execution of End market category “Sourcing to Contract” specifically source to contract (sourcing plan, tender, negotiate and contract), spend and compliance reporting, commercial risk management and contract management

    Key Accountabilities

    • Business
      • Ensure that short and long term Procurement business objectives are met regarding cost, quality and reliability according to the BAT policies
      • Compilation and submission of reports to senior internal stakeholders within agreed timelines (e.g. monthly reports and pre-sop)
      • Liaise with suppliers regarding prices, quality and service within the agreed procurement guidelines. Administer the monthly handling fees and calculation of rebates
      • Calculation of cost impact for wrapping material projects and specification changes
      • Calculation of wrapping material cost for new brands or marketing initiatives
      • Inform Planning department of the material requirements for new brands and specifications
      • Assist in identification of savings and standardization opportunities. Ensure that these opportunities are investigated and implemented if viable
      • Annual revision of economic order quantities (EOQ) for wrapping materials.
      • Assist in the preparation of the wrapping materials company plan
      • Ensure the relevant information on SAP system e.g. Info records, source lists and vendor master data are maintained
      • Investigate and resolve price differences on invoices and unblocked invoices if required
      • Co-ordination of overseas supplier visits to ensure that maximum benefits from such visits are achieved
      • Arrangement of continuous improvement meetings with suppliers that involve all relevant functions, in order to decrease rejections and cost & improve service and productivity
    • Leadership
      • To lead the process of local sourcing execution where required to ensure delivery of the stakeholder requirements and targets.
    • Management
      • Assist Procurement Manager with Supplier price negotiations
      • To ensure contracts are completed for all relevant agreements and that SLA’s (Service Level Agreements) have been agreed with the relevant business owner.
      • Support global, regional and local initiatives to be completed within specified timelines and budgeted spend
      • To apply the agreed global policies, standards and platforms.
      • Provide forecasts on prices and market changes as an input into planning where appropriate.
    • Relationship
      • To own commercial supply base management building strong internal and external business relationships to ensure the delivery of the category goals.
      • Manage and resolve contractual performance issues and escalate where required.
    • Innovation
      • To identify new products and services that may impact on sourcing execution and escalate to the End Market Procurement Business Manager.
      • To propose and/or develop alternate solutions alongside new products and services.

    Experience 2 to 4 years

    • Qualification CIPS Corporate Diploma in Purchasing and/or membership of The Chartered Institute for Purchasing and Supply or equivalent country qualification or membership would be an advantage.
    • Thorough knowledge of supply market, supplier capabilities and competitor activity, and expected trends at a local level.
    • Proven capability of applying supplier management techniques to ensure contracted benefits are delivered.
    • Supplier and contract management experience.
    • Detailed understanding of financial evaluation and interpretation of supplier’s records and their key cost and business drivers.
    • Full understanding of the category total cost model, cost drivers and all factors needed to ensure a robust agreement for BAT (including specification and testing requirements).
    • Understanding of the processes, timelines and constraints for the development and delivery of new products.
    • Professional knowledge of procurement principals, including high order negotiation skills.
    • Sound knowledge of corporate regulations and legislation to ensure the creation of effective group contracts.
    • Experience of sourcing at a local level for a period of 2 years minimum.
    • High level of commercial awareness.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Proven negotiation skills and influencing skills able to influence business partners and suppliers as well as the ability to be assertive if required to ensure compliance to contract.
    • Strong numerical ability.
    • Ability to develop and maintain effective partnerships working across geographic boundaries.
    • A focus on service delivery and savings.
