Job Summary

The Sensient Colors Manager Quality/Product Safety reports to the General Manager and assumes full and complete responsibility for the quality assurance function of the site. The Manager Quality/Product Safety ensures compliance with the Company and Departmental Quality Standards and Policies are maintained at all times.

Responsibilities

• Quality Management System
• Establish and maintain facility/site quality policy and objectives.
• Serves as Site Quality Management Representative.
• Assure Good Manufacturing Practice compliance for plant and laboratory operations and manufacturing records.
• Responsible for systematic review and maintenance of site Quality System components in accordance with corporate policies, procedures, programs, applicable government regulations and third party requirements.
• Direct site activities to evaluate, analyze, and report on product development, product and process performance.
• Apply principles and processes for quality control to site activities.
• Establish and operate site product complaint, field correction, and recall system.
• Responsible for site quality system compliance with government agencies and third party certification bodies.
• Support the supplier quality audit program to support supplier development initiatives.
• Responsible for maintaining the site CAPA (corrective and preventive action) program.
• Manage and direct the internal audit program to maintain compliance with site and regulatory requirements.
• Responsible for GMP, Allergen and HACCP training and compliance at the facility.
• Provide a systematic review process and resources to assure all products meet regulatory and conformance requirements prior to market release.
• Maintain an effective change management system for manufacturing and R&D processes.
• Responsible for Quality support of new product development process.
• Lead in the application of appropriate statistically based tools to assess process and product capability.
• Systematically assess and report quality system performance against internal and external standards.
• Assure product development, manufacturing and control systems meet requirements of product technical files.
• Supervise the plant QC Operators and QC Analysts.
• Ensure design verification and validation activities are performed.
• Customer Support
• Supports internal customers (including Customer Service, Sales, Research & Development, Quality Assurance) by serving as subject matter expert in assigned areas by interpreting regulations, providing information to addressexternal customer needs, providing guidance in the development of products to internal customers by accurately maintaining product information databases.
• Supports external customer by providing routine or standard technical information in areas of subject matter expertise / core technology. Serves as a secondary resource for non-routine or confidential information disclosure.
• Customer complaint processing and timeous response to customer with findings report
• Professional Expertise
• Maintains up-to-date awareness and knowledge of the principles set forth in the regulations for assigned core technologies, ingredient categories and associated regulatory agencies (pharmaceutical, food, cosmetics, industrial).
• Actively cross-trains with others to relieve high volume issues and maintain a balance of workload within the department.
• Communicates information to appropriate personnel. Actively listens and shares information and knowledge with others in an effective and a timely manner. Ensures that appropriate information is communicated, received and understood.
• Demonstrates the technical/functional skills to fulfill the needs of the role and continually develops expertise. Actively pursues personal development to improve and add skills in order to effectively apply expertise internally and externally.
• Demonstrates the flexibility and ability to adapt to a changing environment.
• Implementation of new national and international regulations as and when required (EU, USA, China, Australia, African countries, etc).
• Conduct regulatory presentations on internal and external meetings.
• Author and approve documentation for all locally manufactured products.
• Review incoming customer specifications, determine compliance with existing products, and communicate with customer. Revise Sensient product specifications as appropriate.
• Develop and implement programs to automatically generate specifications, MSDS, and other required technical documentation.
• Participate in the global implementation of DevEx and other software to assist in the production and management of regulatory documentation.
• Understand, interpret and apply current regulations, domestic and global.
• Keep current with regulatory changes. Notify other business units of the changes and prepare information bulletins for distribution to our customers.
• Review and approve raw materials in accordance with regulatory and compendial requirements.
• External representation
• Provide external representation of Sensient Colors while in attendance at technical sessions, courses or seminars.
• Develops relationships inside and outside the organization to enhance personal and company effectiveness.
• Participation in national and international project teams.
• Planning
• Plan and schedule customer information and questionnaire requests by providing product documentation and product conformity according to customer questionnaires.
• Completion of customer product and self-audit questionnaires.
• Maintain technical databases related to raw materials, formulas, and finished products. To understand, respect, and act ethically when dealing with matters related to regulatory compliance.
• Management of stock viability in terms of ensuring that retesting is done timeously.
• Training and audits
• Training of staff on ISO 9001 and FSSC 22000.
• Training and informing staff on SOP’s relevant to their departments.
• Carry out Internal audits on GMP, ISO standards, SOP’s for all areas, microbiological testing and non-conformances reported to be followed up within 2 days at the most.
• Participate in customer and supplier audits.
• Ensure supplier approvals timeously.
• Control all processes included updates linked to ISO 9001 and its updates.
• Control all processes including updates linked to FSSC 22000 and its updates.
• Inform, train and advice internal customers on regulatory topics.
• JDE functions
• Loading of BOM’s onto JDE to ensure that production can continue without delay.
• Train secondary person as back-up.

Education & Experience

• A good secondary school education with a minimum Senior Certificate (Grade 12) certificate
• A tertiary qualification in Quality Management or equivalent.
• A minimum of 5 years’ of professional experience in a management role, work experience in the food ingredients industry are an advantage
• Very good English language skills (fluent in spoken and written), other additional language proficiencies are an advantage
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and handle multiple tasks in an effective manner
• Excellent communication skills, experience in working both autonomously as well as in a team
• Very good knowledge of MS Office, extensive experience in dealing within an ERP system, e.g. Oracle or SAP
• Willing / ability to travel
