DEPARTMENT OF FACILITIES MANAGEMENT
SENIOR TECHNICAL MANAGER: SYSTEMS ENGINEERING
PEROMNES POST LEVEL 6

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The incumbent will assist the Engineering Manager: Bulk and Municipal Service in focusing on the areas of responsibility in accordance with the UP standard and the client’s specific needs. To enable the Senior Technical Manager: Systems Engineering to achieve these objectives, he/she will need to attend to the following:
• Ensure that all monitoring systems are developed, implemented and managed according to the business requirements and to provide the best value for money option to the University of Pretoria;
• Assist the Technical Services Division to manage the monitoring system and follow up on alarms activated with respect to water leak flows, standby generators, power factor correction banks, and electronic services which, if not implemented effectively, may result in further damages, as well as potential financial losses to the University;
• Assist the Technical Services Division to monitor, report and improve the energy and water efficiency and plant availability at the facilities managed;
• Act as project manager for the development of new system implementation for the Technical Services Division;
• Perform project reviews, commissioning witnessing and hand-overs (as client representative) pertaining to system implementation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• A four-year Bachelor’s degree in Electronic or Computer Engineering and six years’ appropriate experience; OR
• A National Higher diploma in Electrical (light current) Engineering plus 10 years’ appropriate experience;

Sound knowledge of the following:

• Access control systems – Impro & Softcon system;
• Intruder alarms – Cosmos;
• CCTV – Hikvision;
• Fire detection – Ziton;
• Generator system monitoring – Cell sure;
• Electricity supply monitoring – ECWin;
• Metering setup and data collection – Landis+Gyr Map 110 and 120;
• Water metering – Zednet and PMAC;
• Database management – SQL;
• Programming experience - .NET and web based;
• User requirement interpretation, specification compiling, and system implementation;
• System maintenance;
• Physically able to visit sites where great heights and difficult access are involved.

• Computer literacy in MS Office and Excel.
