CATEGORY PROCUREMENT MANAGER, RAW MATERIALS at Ascendis Health

JOB OBJECTIVE

Develop and execute a category sourcing strategy aligned with Ascendis Health’s short, medium and long term business objectives. Establish a distinctive competency and understanding of the spend category, Ascendis business needs and the prevailing market dynamics.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

DEFINE SPEND CATEGORY SOURCING STRATEGIES:

• Lead the development of the raw materials spend category including analyzing the portfolio and determining the overall procurement approach to drive overall value
• Consult with business divisions and functions on the development of the category
• Develop and drive a strategy to enhance margin and reduce overall risk for the spend category
• Select and manage suppliers; conduct tender process and finalise contracts in line with the category strategy
• Continuously keep abreast of industry trends to evaluate impact or opportunity for the Ascendis group of companies
• Present strategies to senior business stakeholders for consultation and approval
• Develop a strong relationship with counterparts in the Ascendis group of international companies to drive synergies

MANAGE COMMODITY TEAMS AND SOURCING EXECUTION

• Manage commodity management team members, providing strategic leadership and direction to support sourcing activities
• Establish and lead cross-functional sourcing teams to execute strategic projects within the ambit of procurement
• Lead the development of the tender activities, managing the project end-to-end and consulting business stakeholders during the course of the project
• Develop and implement cost reduction strategies with a total cost of ownership principle
• Cost modelling of the revelant spend category to drive further understanding and identify relevant opportunities for optimization

DEVELOP MARKET INTELLIGENCE OF THE SPEND CATEGORY

• Conduct targeted benchmarking analysis of the supply market, identifying trends and activities within the supply base or industry in relation to technological/industrial trends
• Based on market intelligence, identify short and long term supply risks and implement mitigation strategies

SUPPLIER MANAGEMENT

• Manage supplier relationships with a view to driving sustainable, mutual value with key preferred partners
• Develop a preferred list of partners based on a portfolio management approach
• Drive preferential procurement iniatives to support the Ascendis Health group BBBEE strategic goals over a multi-year period

NEGOTIATIONS MANAGED

• Develop and lead negotiation strategies with stakeholder input aimed at complex spend categories
• Conduct negotiations with suppliers
• Articulate negotiation outcomes and impact/opportunity to Ascendis Health

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT (WHERE APPLICABLE)

• Develop capabilities of the commodity procurement team including best practices, leadership, tools and processes
• Responsible for the effective performance of the team members, including personal development plans
• Responsible for the entire employee HR life-cycle within the assigned Category team

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

• B degree (Commerce, Engineering, Finance, Logistics); MBA preferable
• 5-7 years in Procurement; At least 2-3 years of strategic sourcing experience
• Strong proven skill in strategic sourcing
• Proven ability to motivate ideas and strategies to senior management stakeholders
• Pharmaceutical experience advantageous (MCC regulatory framework working knowledge)
• At least 2 years people management skills preferable
