Head of Combined Assurance at Sasol

Job description

Purpose of Job / Role Intent:

In accordance with the Sasol Assurance Services (SAS) Charter as approved by the Sasol Limited Audit Committee:

• Manage the execution of combined assurance activities within the Sasol Group.
• Monitor the execution of the Eleven-step approach as approved by the Sasol Limited Audit Committee
• Monitor the quality of audits executed in line with the annual combined assurance work-plans to ensure they are in alignment with the Sasol Assurance Services Operating Manual.
• Integrate with other departmental heads regarding resources to ensure completion of the Integrated Risk-based Annual Assurance Plan as approved by the Sasol Limited Audit Committee.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience required

• Preferred - CA(SA) with subject matter expertise
• 3 to 5 years relevant experience with at least 3 years managerial experience

• Internal auditing
• Risk management
• Governance
• Also to be considered: BCom Hons with completed Articles with 5 to 8 years relevant
• experience and subject matter expertise with at least 3 years managerial experience.

• Embedding of CAM
• Drive the implementation of innovative improvements to the systems and processes to embed the Combined Assurance model
• Develop and maintain CAM procedures and guidelines
• Maintain CAM enabling tool
• Align assurance objectives with Group Risk Management and ensure optimal working relationship to deliver on CAM objectives
• Prepare and perform external communications to business in the form of presentations and meetings to drive the CAM process

Internal Audit Reporting

• Periodically compile, review and submit all relevant reports to all relevant stakeholders for area of specialisation and/ or VP: Projects and Combined Assurance and/ or CAO, as appropriate and in accordance with the Reporting Protocol
• Coordinate the preparation of all the necessary submissions to the Combined Assurance Committee for its effective operation
• Prepare report on quarterly basis for the GEC, Sasol Limited Risk and SHE and the Sasol Limited Audit Committee on the results and progress of combined assurance.
• Ongoing Co-ordination of CAM
• Develop annual CAM plan
• Co-ordinate the CAM plan and schedule audits and audit team
• Direct the approach of all CAM validations and the co-ordination with Group Risk Management with respect to the compilations of the various Sasol assurance landscapes
• Include IA results of annual plan into the CAM framework
• Provide continuous guidance and coaching to CAM staff to enhance understanding of the Sasol landscape and the principles of combined assurance
• Co-ordinate the CAM results, interpret and discuss with business
• Consolidate all CAM report results and analyse for reporting above
• Stakeholder engagement
• Attend, monitor, evaluate and contribute to discussions at relevant Business Executive Committees where assurance about the area of specialisation is being discussed
• Identify and communicate any significant risks not yet identified through the risk management process
• Share knowledge, network and collaborate with Assurance Services colleagues on internal audit findings
• Contribute to advice provided on Corporate Governance frameworks
• Discuss and obtain input on annual audit plan
• Issue and discuss all significant CAM results with senior management
• Ensure alignment with Group Risk Management regarding the compilation of the assurance landscapes and to meet the CAM objectives
• Provide Specialist advice
• On request review policy and procedures
• Attend and provide specialist advice on request at relevant forums
• Ad hoc requests for specialist advice on best practice and group policy
• Quality Control
• Review all CAM reports prior to submission to VP: Projects and Combined Assurance and ensure that all reporting protocols are observed
• Conduct manager review of CAM plan working papers
• May assist with quarterly peer review of audit working papers within IA
• Sasol Assurance Services Functional Management
• Assist in the development of tactical plans to support the implementation of the SAS strategy
• Drive the implementation of innovative improvements and tactical changes to combined assurance processes and systems
• Stay abreast of new developments in the assurance and governance environment and make recommendations on necessary changes
• Lead team and be a role model for Sasol values
• Manage delivery to ensure requirements of the Sasol Limited Audit Committee in terms of our performance measures are met

• Proactively engage with other peer managers in order to drive integration between all departments within Assurance Services
