A unique opportunity exists for a dynamic, high performing individual to develop and manage the integrated strategy for the legal function of the Company.  

Key Performance Outputs:

The successful candidate, reporting to the Group Executive Governance and Assurance, will be instrumental in the provision of legal services in litigations, procurement, competition, tax, commercial and property, pension and provident fund law, construction and engineering, environmental, labour and international law.

• Develop and deliver on the Legal strategy and Legislative Framework to ensure achievement of objectives in legal areas.
• Manage the development of legal policies and ensure that they are aligned with the integrated legal strategy.
• Manage the provision of legal support on the economic regulatory functions of the company.
• Manage the provision of legal support on any relevant business opportunities/acquisitions to support the business development strategy.
• Manage the coordination of legal actions for and against ACSA.
• Manage the provision of legal information and provide appropriate legal support to the business and stakeholders.
• Advise the Company on national and international emerging legislation that may affect the business operational compliance.
• Compile, implement and effectively manage the approved budgets, report variances and monitor the implementation of remedial actions to minimise impact.
• Accountable for operational team performance through effective management of standards/objectives.
• Plan, organise, lead and control subordinate’s activities to ensure sub-functional objectives are met or exceeded.
• Develop, support and maintain healthy diverse internal as well as external relationships and implement remedial action where required to ensure achievement of organisational goals.
• Act as ACSA’s legal representative to industry and other external parties.
• Act as a gatekeeper for all litigations related to the Board of Directors.

Technical Skills and Experience:

• The following skills or the equivalent of such, will be required:
• The challenges posed by this position require an Admitted Attorney with a relevant Bachelor’s Degree in Law.
• The ideal candidate will be a registered member of the Law Society of South Africa.
• The successful candidate will have 3 – 5 years legal practice (post articles) experience.
• 5 years relevant experience in Corporate Legal Advisory Services.
