Job description

Key Performance Areas:

• Coordinating the acquisition of spatial data and integration of these data into the organisation’s GIS.
• Input, update and maintain GIS databases, including backups and also maintaining linkages to other databases.
• Catalog and inventory GIS data, including metadata creation
• Download, convert and upload GIS data available from internal and external sources to make them usable
• Application of spatial analysis, modeling and performance of data queries
• Create map layouts and views, and generate maps and reports.
• Setting data structures and ensuring that incoming and outgoing data is effectively and efficiently managed
• Perform GIS data quality control, including reviewing data for completeness and accuracy; identifying and correcting errors or omissions in the data.
• Development of data capturing procedures, standards and quality control procedures
• Provide GIS support services to projects, data collection, analysis and geo-database maintenance
• Effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders
• Build effective partnerships with stakeholders
• Design and document process flows, key stages, activities and tasks and compile work schedule
• Able to research, document, and test new technology and procedures

Prerequisites:

• Three-year tertiary qualification in any of the following: Geo-informatics/ Geomatics/Town Planning/ Cartography/ Geographic Information Systems (GIS)/ Land Surveying
• Extensive experience in a multifaceted environment
• Knowledge of South African geography and use of spatial datasets is essential
• Knowledge of MS Office Suite
• Proficient with GIS Software, preferably ESRI products
• Excellent report-writing skills
• Training in project management will be an advantage
• Registration with Plato will be an advantage.
• Proven GIS skills, with specialisation in Arc GIS
• Valid driver’s license with driving experience.
