    Responsibilities

    • Responsible for carrying out research activities in accordance with the guidelines as provided by the project managers and researchers.
    • Conduct interviews, chart reviews and other data collection activities as required using a standardized questionnaire.
    • Collection of blood, urine and sputum sample and preparation of study samples for transport in accordance with infection control protocols.
    • Administration, recording and organization of short patient questionnaires in preparation for data analysis.
    • Tracking, recording and reporting of patient test results to relevant site authorities and patient, and organization and filing of patient data.
    • Record-keeping and data management, including keeping records of patients test results as detailed in the study protocol. An electronic data management system will be used.
    • Communication with research project manager, relevant research study staff and hospital/clinic staff at site.
    • Tracking and requisition of necessary medical supplies for blood, urine and sputum sample collection.

    Qualifications

    Requirements/Qualifications:

    • Matric or higher education level
    • Fluency in English and Zulu (verbal and written)
    • Nurse qualification in good standing
    • Experienced with phlebotomy (drawing blood from patient’s arm)
    • Time management skills, basic administrative and organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines
    • Ability to use a computer for data entry and writing of basic reports
    • Good personal skills, strong service ethic, sensitivity to patients, professionalism, and attention to detail
    • Flexibility to take on other duties as reasonably requested by the Project Manager
    • Experience in a research setting is preferred
