Purpose:

A position exists for a Business Information Developer to form part of the organisation’s BI development team. This requires a motivated, inquisitive and analytical person who has a good technical base and appreciation of the value derived from appropriate analysis and presentation of information.

This person will focus mainly on creating and maintaining information assets in order to efficiently support the organisation’s information delivery requirements. Excellent SQL skills and a demonstrable understanding of relational database systems are a requirement. The successful candidate will be based in Cape Town.

Duties will include, but not limited to:

• Work as part of a development team to create and maintain the organisation’s BI environment
• Conceptualise and develop new reports as well as improving existing ones
• Analysis of data from various sources
• Work with business and/or system analysts to understand and fulfil information requirements
• Continually look for new and useful ways to obtain, integrate and analyse data according to the organisation’s business model in order to provide meaningful insights
• Assist application and database development teams with the implementation of an enterprise wide pervasive BI strategy
• Assist with performance tuning of information delivery (SQL, reports, etc.) as needed
• Provide mentoring/training to members inside own team and the bigger department
• Educate end-users to ensure efficient and appropriate use of BI tools and assets
• Always be aware of data sensitivity and security requirements
• Maintain relevant documentation and information library

Minimum Requirements:

• Matric with 3-5 years’ relevant experience in a similar role
• Experience in Oracle SQL and performance turning
• Experience in Oracle BI Publisher
• Tertiary qualification (Degree or National Diploma) or similar technical qualification
• A proven track record of working on an enterprise level BI development platform
• MS Excel intermediate or better level required
• XML, XPATH & XSL knowledge
• Ability to provide accurate estimates
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Beneficial Requirements:

• Oracle PL/SQL knowledge and experience
• Experience in Oracle BIEE and Data Visualisation Methodologies
• Awareness of Data Warehouses and their concepts
• Relevant certification (SQL, OCA, OCP)
• MySQL knowledge
• Insight of data modelling and Enterprise Data Warehousing concepts
• Oracle certification on a developer track including SQL and PL/SQL
