    Senior Manager: Brownfields Exploration

    Job description

    To provide direct output & support to the VP: Geology Continental Africa Region to develop exploration programmes, systems (structure, processes and people) for the various BU’s and optimise exploration processes and the understanding thereof on the CAR operations and surrounding districts.

    ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    The role holder has the following accountabilities and authorities:

    • Increase the Mineral Resource and Ore Reserve of CAR through the coordination and optimization of CAR’s exploration plan in a safe and cost-effective manner.
    • Monitor and co-ordinate technical matters to assist in the efficient, safe and profitable exploration of ore bodies and the creation and maintenance of a prospective resource inventory for CAR Brownfields sites.
    • Development of a quality exploration plan to co-ordinate the Brownfield’s exploration strategy for the CAR region in order to meet CAR’s exploration goals.
    • Develop in collaboration with the various BU’s, 4D exploration models through increased geological understanding to yield a comprehensive model set in the next 24 months.
    • Provide technical specialist support to the Business Units & Mine sites on optimal geological models, systems and processes.
    • Implement Exploration guidelines with the input from the Business Units in accordance with corporate policy.
    • Monitor the exploration systems (structure, processes, people-direct reports specifically) that is being used by Business Units.
    • Introduce and maintain an up to date exploration schedule that is integrative of processes and that shows production and cost metrics (12 month cycle).
    • Introduce resources to provide Exploration Project support and advice on a needs basis during appropriate phases of various projects.
    • Provide guidance to the research teams as well as the VP: Geology around the exploration research projects in the CAR region.
    • Support the VP: Geology in the development and execution of a Regional exploration plan & budget and support BU’s exploration plans & budgets , ensuring that plans and budgets are in place to manage significant risks, liabilities and opportunities.
    • Provide geological updates on conceptual and pre-feasibility and feasibility studies.
    • Monitor updates and events in the field of exploration in the external environment (competitor activity and opportunities).

    • Monitor and validate that exploration risk and practices are appropriately managed and opportunities are understood and reported on.
    • Co-ordinate on request by the business units all external specialists support required for Exploration function.

    • Engage / collaborate with internal & external stakeholders, maintaining effective working relationships on a continuous basis.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    Essential

    • BSC degree in Geology or equivalent recognised qualification.
    • A minimum of 10 years operational experience covering the full spectrum of exploration, geology and management in the mining industry.
    • A minimum of 7 years exposure to structurally controlled and weathered gold deposits
    • Demonstrated capability in organising work, setting priorities and exercising sound independent judgement.
    • Strong ability to lead and work effectively with people, including leading high performing professional teams.
    • Strong interpersonal, influencing and communication skills with a high energy level of enthusiasm for the work with high performance goals for self and team.
    • Preparedness to undertake extensive business travel.

    Desirable

    • A relevant business qualification (e.g., MBA)
    • Well-developed industry networks.
    • Strong track record of success at executive level in the resources industry.
    • Strong track record in change management.

    REMUNERATION:

    • Salary will be in accordance with the AngloGold Ashanti Schedule of Salaries.
