Role Purpose

An opportunity exists for an actuarial analyst in the Reinsurance and Reserving team within MMI's Short-Term Insurance Centre of Excellence. The team is responsible for the Reinsurance and Reserving for Momentum Short Term Insurance (MSTI) as well as other short term insurance entities in Africa and requires an analyst to assist in fulfilling a range of responsibilities as outlined below. This is an exciting role for an energetic, deadline driven team player offering a range of challenges and learning experiences.

Responsibilities and work outputs

• Reserving and subsequent reporting for MSTI and the other African entities. This includes but is not limited to:
• Calculation of various short term insurance reserves for MSTI and African entities
• Any reporting requirements and analysis related to reserves
• Obtaining and analyzing data internally and from African entities
• Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Maintain and monitor adherence to reserving philosophy and standards.
• Managing the reinsurance of MSTI and the other African entities.

This includes but is not limited to:

• Providing technical support with the reinsurance renewal process
• Monitor reinsurance accounting and adherence to reinsurance standards
• Maintain relationships with brokers and other stakeholders
• Placement and monitoring of direct reinsurance
• Supporting IT with reinsurance system requirements

Offer support to the claims department. This includes but is not limited to:

• Ensuring that the correct claims philosophy is implemented and maintained on the system
• Ad-hoc analysis and modelling used to monitor or drive operational behavior.
• Fraud Modelling
• Managing and reporting on investments and investment risk and compliance.
• The specific role advertised will also involve reviewing the work of and upskilling other members of the team.

Experience and Qualifications

• A degree in Actuarial Science
• Completed all CT exams and/or CA1
• SQL skills
• Microsoft Office skills
• ResQ skills would be an advantage
• Minimum 1 year experience in the Short Term Insurance Industry
