Nurse Unit Coordinator at Aspen Medical

Job Description

• Aspen Medical is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced Nurse Unit Coordinators for short to medium term deployments to work within a field hospital in Iraq.
• As part of the conflict in Northern Iraq, the Iraq Army has largely secured the eastern side of Mosul. Much of the healthcare infrastructure had been destroyed so temporary medical facilities have been established.
• With the commencement of the offensive in Mosul, there is likely to be a significant increase in trauma casualties. Mosul is a city of about 1.2 million people and both military and civilian casualties have been high. Nearly half the casualties are civilians and this includes a high proportion of children.
• Aspen Medical is currently negotiating with an international agency to provide humanitarian healthcare services in Northern Iraq.

Our Program

• Aspen Medical, through its overseas subsidiaries Uniteam Medical and Aspen Medical International, will support this international humanitarian effort by establishing a trauma hospital combined with a maternity facility in Northern Iraq. This facility will assist with the stabilisation of civilian casualties by providing surgical trauma care. Patients will then be evacuated and provided longer term treatment through the public health system.
• As a Nurse Unit Coordinator you will work within a multidisciplinary team to provide inpatient acute care, general and obstetric surgery for trauma and other major conditions. You will draw on your previous experience working in isolated or conflict zones and your strong communication skills to deliver high quality clinical services.
• You will be well briefed and supported with pre-deployment training, and there will be a dedicated security team on site. It should be understood that the hospitals may be located in potentially dangerous areas, including combat or war zones. This might involve the possibility of suffering harm by dangerous forces or friendly fire. These dangers are inherent to working conditions in a conflict zone. In addition, you should be able to demonstrate a level of physical fitness commensurate with the requirements of the role, which may include the requirement to run medium distances, climb in and out of transportation quickly and easily, and lift a range of equipment.
• Aspen Medical will provide your flights and transport to and from your home location, and all accommodation for the duration of your deployment, in addition to payment of salary.

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED:

Requirements:

•  Completed formal training and be able to demonstrate significant and current experience as a Nurse Unit Manager.
•  Previous experience working in a conflict zone, or comparable setting, and possess the physical and psychological resilience to perform in such an environment for periods up to six weeks.
•  Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary, international team, and be able to build long-term capacity and sustainability within local staff and structures.
