    PROGRAMME MANAGER

    Job description

    Health Systems Trust (HST) wishes to appoint a Programme Manager to provide strategic direction and technical support tthe project team. He/she will be responsible for initiating and implementing project activities. The candidate will manage, assure quality in and provide technical leadership for the Unit’s health systems research (HSR) projects in line with the organisation’s goal of contributing tbuilding equitable, effective and efficient national health systems in South Africa and the region, through the development and maintenance of functional districts. The candidate will alscontribute tother initiatives within the organisation such as proposal-writing.

    The incumbent will be expected to be based in the Midrand office; however, consideration will be given for the incumbent tbe based in the Cape Town or Durban offices.

    This is a fixed-term contract position, renewable based on funding.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provide technical leadership tHST staff in the design, securing, resourcing and implementation of HSR projects
    • Support the Director with the overall management of the Unit through:
    • Planning and budgeting
    • Fundraising, including proposal development, to ensure sustainability of the Unit and the organisation
    • Quality assurance of the Unit’s work and products
    • Line management of project managers and staff
    • Management of staff performance and development goals
    • Management of project progress reporting requirements according tfunder specifications
    • Manage relationships with funders and stakeholders; liaise with National and Provincial Departments of Health, clients and funder/s
    • Support knowledge management within the organisation and ensure collaboration with other HST units
    • Represent HST in public forums/meetings/conferences
    • As a senior member of the team, contribute tthe overall leadership of HST.

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • A PhD or postgraduate qualification in public health
    • A FCPHM degree would be an advantage.
    • At least five years’ experience in public health
    • General management experience
    • Knowledge and experience of southern African health systems and policies, public health, health information systems, monitoring and evaluation and the District Health System
    • A proactive and professional management style
    • Excellent writing skills
    • Experience of working in the NPenvironment will be an advantage.

    REMUNERATION

    A salary package commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications and in line with HST’s Job Grading System will be offered.
