Junior GIS Technician at Golder Associates

Job Responsibilities:

Golder Associates Africa is seeking a Junior Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician to join the Midrand office. The Junior GIS Technician will support GIS products and services to internal and external clients in fulfilment of this need and is part of the Mine Environment Division.

Role

Golder is made up of teams of industry leading specialists in the fields of engineering, environmental services, water resources, groundwater, ecology, land development, sustainable development, public participation, waste and mine closure and reclamation. All of these divisions require strong decision support services from GIS in order to plan and execute their projects effectively, and present results in a professional manner.

Responsibilities

• Production of professional, high quality graphics reports and maps adhering to cartographic standards and protocols
• Development of GIS services and delivery of GIS products to the Environmental Services (EIA) teams
• Integrating and developing GIS services for the earth science disciplines
• Project geo-information management in line with Golder Geo-IM protocols
• Conducting basic spatial analyses
• Maintaining project geo-databases including data consolidation, conversion and editing according to Golder protocols and standards
• Data conversions (e.g. CAD – GIS)
• Managing personal time and productivity under pressure, understanding personal fiscal responsibility and productivity in a consulting environment
• Working well in a team

Qualifations And Experiences

Job Requirements:

• Completion of High School Education
• Relevant Degree, Diploma
• GIS certifications advantageous
• 1-2 years practical experience a minimum
• At least intermediate level of competency with ArcGIS extensions (e.g. 3D Analyst, Spatial Analyst).
• Well-developed technical skills in desktop GIS, particularly ArcGIS.
• Geodatabase management competencies
• Ability to prepare cartographically sound map products to meet the client’s needs.
• Understanding of projection systems.
• MS Word, MS Excel & MS PowerPoint
• ArcGIS 9x or 10x
• Other spatial software beneficial (CAD, MapInfo, Global Mapper, Google Earth)
