Purpose of Job:

The provision of civil engineering services within SCO is in the vital interest of the SCO business units as it aims to ensure successful project delivery, quality and compliance of external consultant services, quality and compliance of civil and structural construction, and sound governance in the execution of civil engineering in general:

Our main services that we render to our Clients are as follows:

• Provision of Professional Engineering advice and technical support.
• Provision of general project and construction support.
• Assessment of integrity of existing structures and civil infrastructure.
• Development of maintenance strategies.
• Development of renewal plans.
• Civil and structural investigations.
• Assisting in civil procurement.
• Assisting in contract administration and dispute resolution.
• Participate in the bigger Sasol environment to lead and govern the C&A engineering discipline through collaboration with other C&A leads in the various business units.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications and Experience required:

• A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering and 10+ years of experience or a Masters Degree and 8+ years of experience, or a PhD and 5+ years of experience.
• Professional Engineer registered with ECSA.
• Related Experience: Design, construction and operations support

Key accountabilities:

• Business Results
• Provide technical inputs into the maintenance of civil, structural, roads, water and sewage infrastructure.
• Deliver civil and structural renewal roadmaps to support business requirements
• Do small concept designs in support of general civil and structural infrastructure maintenance.
• Do front end loading of civil and structural projects.
• Provide technical inputs into quality assurance for civil and structural asset maintenance repairs, renewals and projects.
• Leadership and Strategic Direction
• Deliver civil and structural engineering for plant support through a team of civil engineers.
• Develop the civil engineers in the team and provide input into development of the civil and structural engineers in the bigger Sasol environment.
• Develop and facilitate execution of the civil and structural engineering strategy for SCO, and collaborate in the development of the bigger Sasol strategy.
• Collaboration with plant owners to define and align on all aspects of this engineering discipline.
• Governance, compliance and risk management
• Adhere and comply with OSHAct, National Civil Engineering Codes and specifications, Sasol specifications and other health and safety requirements
• Responsible to deliver quality engineering solutions for all projects and ensure delivery on technical intent, through own resources and by performing quality management on delivery of external resources.
• Participation in projects done by others as owner team representatives.
