Main Purpose:

Reporting directly to the Executive Manager: Finance and Corporate Services, this position is responsible for the complete Accounting function of the organisation in line with approved business organisational structure.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare, analyse and examine accounting records, financial statements and other financial reports to assess for completeness, conformance and accuracy in line with financial protocols.
• Compute VAT owed or payable and prepare tax returns while ensuring compliance with reporting, payment and other tax requirements
• Finance reporting to management and Executive committee
• Analysing of business operations, trends, revenues, obligations, costs and financial commitments in order to project future revenues and expenses
• Develop, analyse and maintain budgets by preparing periodic reports to compare actual vs budget costs
• Record keeping: implement, modify and develop record keeping and accounting systems making use of Syspro accounting system
• Managing finance personnel by directing their working activities
• Recommend, maintain and develop operations accounting needs to maintain solutions to financial and business problems.
• Provide internal and external auditing services for the organisation
• Adviser for management regarding resource utilization, tax strategies and assumptions regarding budget forecasts
• Represent the organisation before SARS and provide support during litigation involving financial issues
• Maintain and examine financial records of the organisation
• Negotiating business terms with clients and associated organisations
• Analysing and investing annual and monthly financial accounts
• Liaising across business units with managerial staff, colleagues and clients
• Liaise with the City of Cape Town, lawyers, auditors, financial experts and regulatory bodies on behalf of the organisation
• Developing and maintaining financial policies and systems.
• Monitoring and maintaining the accounts calendar.
• Developing and maintaining Corporate Governance within the organisation
• Ad-hoc requests by the Executive Committee.

Competencies and Other Requirements:

• An Accounting degree or equivalent
• At least 5 years’ experience in a similar accounting role of which 3 years needs to be in a managerial capacity
• A passion for Cape Town
