    Electrical Engineer - Utilities

    Job description

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Managing the following teams:

    • Motor Management
    • High Tension
    • Waterplant / Effluent Treatment plant, Control &Instrumentation and Electrical Maintenance
    • Lab Maintenance
    • Management of the areas including the Maintenance, optimisation and repair of installed and spare electrical equipment to achieve highest possible availability of the plant.
    • People management include the guidance, development and training of team members.
    • Reward and recognition as well as disciplinary process must be used to enable the team to become top level performers.
    • The Health and Safety of the team as well as the Technical integrity of plant and equipment is a detailed focus area for the incumbent
    • Further the role of the incumbent includes the Energy Management function for the company. This entails the collection of data, compilation and reporting on a regular basis the Energy consumption of the total plant, different business units and detail focus areas.
    • New energy savings projects must be identified, tracking of savings against targets and optimising savings with additional mechanisms like tax rebates and Carbon credits.
    • The incumbent must continuously look into the future of the Energy Sector of South Africa and develop projects like “own generation”, “renewable energy” options and try and be proactive in mitigating risks like power outages, energy shortages and regulatory issues that impact the company.
    • The incumbent will regularly engage with colleagues from other group factories on energy and related issues. The negotiations together with internal role players like Procurement and Legal on Energy supply contracts shall be needed from time to time.
    • The incumbent must deal externally with Energy suppliers for electricity and gas. Regularly liaise with government and other regulatory bodies like Nersa, Department of Energy and Treasury.
    • The incumbent shall represent the company on forums like the EIUG, Gas User Group, Industry Task Team for Climate Change and Busa. The Incumbent must stay up to date on regulatory aspects for Electricity, Gas, Tax incentives and Carbon Tax.

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Minimum of 5 years experience on Electrical network maintenance, Energy management and Contract negotiations
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in team management

    QUALIFICATIONS (NON NEGOTIABLE):

    • Minimum qualification: BEng/Bsc Engineering with MDP
    • Government Certificate of Competency and Certification in Energy Management will be required

    This is a middle management position.

    Highly negotiable package.
