    Environmental Control Officer

    Job description

    The primary role of the ECO is to act as an objective enforcer of environmental compliance as stipulated by various conditions associated with relevant environmental laws, permits, licenses and management plans of the onshore production operation and its ancillary site activities. In this respect, the ECO is required to be mostly onsite to oversee activities, undertake periodic site inspections, implement and enforce the Environmental Management Plan (EMP), conduct internal audits and ensure compliance with the commitments made in the various approvals and authorisations. In addition, the ECO is also required to provide support to the Environmental Manager in the implementation of onsite environmental management as well as the implementation and maintenance of the Environmental Management System (EMS).

    • Objectively enforce overall environmental compliance;
    • Ensure that appropriate permissions and permits are obtained prior to activity commencement;
    • Implement and enforce the conditions stipulated in the EMP, authorisations and approvals;
    • Design and implement environmental policies and procedures;
    • Undertake continuous inspections of the production operation and associated areas (70% of time must be spent onsite and in the field);
    • Coordinate and undertake scheduled internal environmental compliance audits;
    • Report on all non-conformances;
    • Identify and implement corrective actions;
    • Provide ongoing environmental awareness and toolbox talks to employees and contractors;
    • Draft and maintain detailed reports and registers;
    • Assist with organising and interpreting data through the Geographic Information Systems (GIS);
    • Assist with ongoing environmental monitoring;
    • Correspond with regulatory authorities under the supervision of the Environmental Manager; and
    • Assist the Environmental Manager with the implementation and maintenance of the EMS.
