    Maintenance Manager (V000090)

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    • The purpose of the position is to manage the facilities maintenance services on the campus to ensure continuity of business and non-interruption of services for the stakeholders. The incumbent must also be able to lead the team and management contractors for the implementation of facilities Maintenance services.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Facilities Management

    • Ensure the maintenance plan module is operational and populated in IWMS.

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    • To teach English linguistics (specifically syntax and morphology components). To lead the linguistics “division” of the English subject group at the Vanderbijlpark campus in terms of teaching & learning and research etc.

    Senior Lecturer- Analyst (P000628)

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION 

    • The UESM has excellent, state-of-the art-analytical facilities and the continued specialist support through managing these facilities and developing methods is essential to maintain the position at the forefront in South Africa and the continent. The Analyst/Senior Lecturer is expected to make contributions to staff and student training in the Unit for Environmental Sciences and Management.
    • An academic/analyst at this level is also expected to play a role in scholarship, research, post graduate supervision and/or professional activities.
    • To build on the existing strengths of the UESM, the incumbent will be required apply and develop analytical methods for the equipment in the analytical laboratory (i.e.LC-MS, GC-HRMS, GF-AAS, Hg-analysers) for biological systems, aquatic ecosystem health etc. with the main responsibility of the optimum management and utilization of the extensive environmental analytical equipment in the UESM.
    • This includes the instrumentation needed for sample preparation, such as the freeze-drier, accelerated solvent extractor, and acid digester.
    • The incumbent will also be involved in the training of staff, postdocs and postgraduate students to utilize the equipment in research.

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    • To ensure an environment that is conducive to  achievement of high-level research ethics and integrity by facilitating a climate that fosters Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) by all researchers (academics and postgraduate students).

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

    • The purpose of this position is to recruit a dedicated scientist and lecturer who will primarily serve as the site operator for our comprehensively equipped atmospheric chemistry monitoring station at the NWU.
    • The successful candidate will blend academic leadership with hands-on operational oversight to ensure the accurate collection, maintenance, and quality control of environmental data.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Teaching and learning:

    • Postgraduate chemistry modules.

    Research and Innovation:

    • Field operation of a comprehensively equipped scientific atmospheric measurement station (including ad hoc sampling campaigns);
    • Organisation and execution of standard operating procedures, scheduled maintenance, as well as all technical (instrumentation and operational) upgrades;
    • Data collation (quality control & quality assurance), transfer, partner access, archiving, post data cleaning and scientific flagging;
    • Onsite training of students and scientists with technical and scientific aspects of atmospheric field measurements;

    Minimum requirements

    • A Master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Chemistry with Atmospheric Chemistry as an area of specialisation.
    • A minimum of 2 years’ lecturing experience at a tertiary institution.
    • Experience in all aspects related to operating a comprehensively equipped atmospheric field measurement station, which include maintenance, field calibrations, data transfer and curation, as well as training.
    • Experience in handling very large datasets, which includes expertise in advanced programming l software such as MATLAB.
