    About The Department

    Novo Nordisk South Africa is looking to appoint an experienced Regional Medical Advisor who will facilitate the exchange of unbiased scientific information between all stakeholders, whilst upholding the Novo Nordisk Way.

    The Regional Medical Advisor position is primarily a field based role but the incumbent will be based at our Rivonia Offices in Gauteng, South Africa. National and International travel will be required and on occasion the Regional Medical Advisor will be expected to engage with stakeholders on weekends during Congress or Advisory Board attendance.

    The position

    As a Regional Medical Advisor you will report directly to the Medical Affairs Manager and your key responsibility will be to build and maintain scientific communication of Novo Nordisk products.

    As a key member of the medical team, the Regional Medical Advisor is responsible for actively interfacing with multiple external and internal stakeholders to ensure implementation of the Novo Nordisk South Africa medical strategy. You will be responsible to build and maintain relationships with Key Opinion Leaders through discussions on Investigator Initiated Studies (IISs), Novo Nordisk marketed products, future pipeline and disease management. You will further be responsible for providing additional clinical support to research sites involved in Novo Nordisk South Africa clinical trials as well as maintaining scientific and medical credibility with Key Opinion Leaders, by keeping abreast of relevant published scientific material. At the request of the Novo Nordisk South Africa field sales unit and in response to unsolicited questions from Health Care professionals, the Regional Medical Advisor will present scientific information to specific health care professionals to increase awareness around key scientific concepts regarding Novo Nordisk products. A Regional Medical Advisor must maintain high professional credibility and ethical standards in interactions with all customers and be seen as a reliable medical and scientific resource by stakeholders. One of the essential functions of a Regional Medical Advisor will be to support pre-launch activities for the Novo Nordisk pipeline products by increasing awareness through medical and scientific communication to Health Care professionals, payers as well as other relevant associations within an assigned geographic region. In addition, the Regional Medical Advisor needs to increase awareness on the unmet needs within their therapeutic area.

    Qualifications

    The ideal candidate should have as a minimum a Master’s degree or PhD in Life Sciences or be a qualified pharmacist. A MBChB degree would be considered an advantage.

    Important skills to work in this position are: strong analytical skills and the ability to influence and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders; cross-functional collaboration and team work with strong attention to detail and quality; good decision-making and problem-solving ability; high learning agility and flexibility in ways of working; self-motivated and results-oriented; excellent command of the English language. Good planning and organisational skills are essential.
