    Manager: Environmental Audit

    Job description

    The African Organisation of English Speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E) is an autonomous, independent and non-political, and has the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) from 26 English-speaking African countries as members. AFROSAI-E is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the position of Manager: Environmental Auditing. This position is for a contract period up until 31 December 2022 with the possible option of renewal and is based in Pretoria, South Africa. Extensive traveling in Africa will be required. Compensation will be negotiable based on qualifications and experience.

    The Manager: Environmental Auditing, will play an instrumental role in developing and implementing initiatives specifically related to Environmental Auditing and Sustainable Development, to help member SAIs build the capacity needed to fulfil their mandate. He/she will provide specialist technical support and will liaise with member SAIs and with key external stakeholders with the view to promoting the role and objectives of AFROSAI-E in the region. The incumbent in this role will be responsible to:

    • Research and develop changes/additions to the current audit approach by integrating Environmental Auditing with other audit disciplines
    • Research, develop and maintain (update) Environmental Audit guidance in line with ISSAIs and other relevant working papers and procedures:
    • Develop implementation strategies and training materials
    • Write articles for internal and external publications
    • Prepare publications for international conferences
    • Participate in relevant working groups and other platforms of INTOSAI WGEA and AFROSAI WGEA to monitor and influence public sector related issues in Environmental Auditing
    • Liaise with role players at the AFROSAI-E Secretariat to ensure integration of capacity building initiatives and processes.
    • Report on the execution and outcomes of programmes as per the requirements of the AFROSAI-E Secretariat.

    Qualifications:

    • Registered as a Professional Accountant/Auditor at a relevant professional body or equivalent
    • Accounting/Auditing degree supplemented with relevant qualification in Environmental Auditing
    • Fluency in written and spoken English

    Experience:

    6-10 years’ experience in Auditing, Environmental Auditing, Capacity Building and at least 5 years in a managerial position

    Knowledge:

    • Auditing Principles, International Standards of Auditing (ISAs/ISSAIs) and Quality control standards (ISQC/INTOSAI)
    • Risk Management Principles
    • Reporting and Legal Frameworks
    • Evidence Gathering Techniques
    • Audit reporting
    • Capacity Building
