Purpose of the Job

Effective procurement of required stock to ensure;

• Optimum stock levels & stock turns
• Availability at all times
• Market-leading product range
• Competitive pricing
• Contribution to continuous sales growth and increased profitability of the business

Key Performance Areas

• Appropriate suppliers sourced
• Relationship with suppliers maintained
• Alternate suppliers sourced where required
• Deals effectively negotiated
• Competitive prices negotiated
• Rebates and discounts managed
• GP% monitored and trends reported to management
• Appropriate Quantities procured
• Sales monitored to identify fast/slow-moving /obsolete lines
• Optimum stock levels ensured
• Appropriate Payment Terms negotiated
• Stay abreast of market trends
• Sales performance monitored to direct procurement initiative
• Ranging developed and maintained to ensure it remains competitive and appropriate
• New store ranging done accurately and monitored to ensure that it remains appropriate / effective
• New lines identified to ensure sales growth
• Cataloguing maintained
• Current lines evaluated to ensure sales volumes maintained – lines discontinued / changed timeously to prevent excess / obsolete stock
• Stock days monitored
• Appropriate Housebrands component maintained at all times
• Manage supplier performance
• Out of stocks managed
• Deliveries ensured on time – late deliveries managed
• Order fill rates managed
• Availability managed
• Promotions appropriately negotiated (Pricing, quantities, payment terms)
• Monitor stock levels at centre and at point of sale
• Excess stock reduced
• Redeployment facilitated
• OTB managed
• Returns to suppliers facilitated
• Obsolete stock recovery
• Monthly reporting

Requirements

• BCom or similar
• Minimum 4 years’ experience in a similar role in buying (retail)
• Must have the ability to think analytically with commercial acumen
• Must enjoy working with numbers, forecast modelling and problem solving
• Strong negotiation skills
• Strong Excel Skills
• Management experience (will be managing a Planner and an Expeditor)
• Knowledge of automotive products will be advantageous
