Main Purpose of Job (Role):

Overall management of the discipline specific area within the design office, ensuring that the discipline solutions are efficiently and effectively managed, resulting in a completed product that is to the satisfaction of the client.

Main functions include (but not limited to):

• Overall management of the discipline specific area
• Overall management of the discipline specific area budget
• Overall management of the discipline solutions quality

Key Performance Areas and Indicators (Responsibilities):

• Engineering
• Carry out innovative detailed designs as required for specific disciplines following good engineering practices
• Ensure that the discipline designs are carried out in accordance with client standards and specifications, industry standards and the relevant legislation (quality of design)
• Provide design interface between disciplines
• Ensure (certified) design information received from vendors, contractors and consultants is accurate and interfaces with other designs
• Ensure the effective (peer) review and approval of discipline design
• Ensure continuous improvement, lessons learnt, value engineering, fit for purpose and latest technologies are implemented
• Carry the responsiblity for the engineering discipline sign off
• Interface with internal and external design and drafting disciplines
• Provide discipline inputs for studies and proposals
• Provide engineering support to the site team
• Perform commissioning discipline activities
• Manage the mark-up and back draughting of redline drawings
• Operational Management
• Management of the discipline design scope including management of the change control process.
• Management of the discipline so as to ensure timeous completion of project design deliverables.
• Management of the discipline budget and related cost control processes.
• Management of all design quality aspects so as to ensure conformance to the agreed project quality management plan.
• Management of design communications including documentation control and reporting.
• Management of the project execution phase including the design and procurement efforts as required.
• Financial
• Management of the commercial aspects of the projects so as to ensure that the project is generally profitable, and consistent with the margins envisaged at tender stage.
• Management of the manhour budget.
• Management of client invoicing process including ensuring that payments are received timeously.

Formal Qualification Required

Degree Civil Engineering
