Private Equity Analyst at Mergon

Job description

The team manages a portfolio of both listed and unlisted assets, primarily focused on opportunities within property, financial services and technology.

The role of the analyst will include the following:

• Compiling detailed research reports on investee companies as well as prospective investments;
• Presenting and defending recommendations to an investment committee;
• Writing investment commentary;
• Gathering financial and operational data on a monthly basis;
• Assisting with deal proposals and due diligence processes;
• Participating in and preparing directors for management meetings of investee companies;
• Establishing relationships with executive teams of investee companies.

The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:

• Strong skills in financial analysis, including valuation methodologies, financial forecasting and financial modelling;
• Demonstrated problem solving skills along with the ability to clearly articulate thoughts, both through verbal and written means;
• Be willing to work longer hours when necessary and travel occasionally;
• Comprehensive knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite;
• Candidates with an engineering, legal or numerical qualification such as CA (SA), CFA or MBA are strongly preferred;
• 2-3 years relevant work experience in the consulting, PE/VC, corporate finance or audit/accounting;
• Relate easily and professionally with executive teams and be a strong fit with Mergon’s culture.

If successful, the candidate will be appointed on a fixed-term contract with no guarantee of a permanent position after two years.
